contributions PEFC and its member schemes, both
endorsed and not endorsed yet, have made and
continue to make in promoting sustainable forest
management around the globe.
A look at the issues of our General Assemblyshows how PEFC is constantly moving forward and
tackling upcoming issues in the interest of the users
of forest certification worldwide. The newinternational PEFC Chain-of-Custody, which is
applicable for all certification systems and in all
countries, is just the latest example of this.
The high confidence and trust the users of
certification have in the PEFC framework is
demonstrated by the rapid growth in numbers of
certification systems applying for PEFCmembership and their efforts to undergo the
stringent endorsement process.
Five years on, with Australia and Chile we have 55
million hectares PEFC certified, members in five
continents and the sixth about to follow as we enter
our sixth year with PEFC. All in all a great
achievement in promoting sustainable forest
management that we can all be truly proud of.
The next General Assemblywill be held in Luxembourg in
October 2005.
