However, one of the most famous of all is the Pegasus. Pegasi are a race of winged horses. Most of them are strong, loyal and free spirited. In greek mythology there also many gods and goddesses who take a vital part in the creation of the first Pegasus. Find out how.

The mother of the first Pegasus was Medusa, a terrible and destructive gorgon. Medusa was so hideous that her eyes could turn the beholder to stone.

Medusa was best known for having snakes for hair. Now you must be asking yourself “How can something so beautiful be born from something so horrible?” In first place Medusa wasn’t always that ugly.

Once she was a beautiful priest of Athena, goddess of wisdom and war. Her beauty caught the eye of the sea god, Poseidon, one of Athena’s rivals.

Soon Athena´s temple became their hiding place. Eventually, Athena found out about this and turned Medusa into a gorgon for a punishment.

Later, a greek hero named Perseus managed to cut off her head. That´s when Pegasus and Chrysaor bubbled out of Medusa’s blood.

Pegasus flew away to a forest and lived there like any wild creature. But, later was tamed by another hero, this one named Belorophon.

This act of bravery made him famous causing him to think he is a god. So he flew with Pegasus to Mt. Olympus home of the gods and goddesses.

The king of gods Zeus did not approve with this so he send a bee to get rid of Belorophon. The bee stung Pegasus and in great pain it dropped Bellorophon to his death
