    applicationhastwomainpurposes:planningandcalibration.

    Usingadvanced3Dtechnology,thePelco3DDesignToolallowsyoutomanageavirtualrepresentationofyour

    reallifelocation,whetheritisaschool,airport,officebuildingorevenawholecity.Withthis3Dmap(also

    referredtoasa3DWorldthroughoutthisdocumentation),youcanplanoutyoursecuritybeforethefirst

    cameraisevenpurchased.Thistypeofplanningwillsaveyoutimeandmoney.

    SavingaProject

    Afteropeninga3DWorldandmakingmodificationstoit,youwillwanttosaveyourproject.Therearetwo

    waystodothis.TosaveyourmodificationsonanexistingProject:

    1. SelectFile>SaveProject(orpressCtrl+S)

    Youcanalsosaveopened3DWorldsasnewprojects.Thiscanbeusefulifyouwanttohavemultipleversions

    ofaparticular3DWorldwithdifferentmodifications.Thisoptionwillalsoberequiredtosaveanimported

    architecturalmodelasaproject.

    1. SelectFile>Advanced>SaveProjectAs.

    Adialogwillappearallowingyoutonametheprojectandsaveitinanylocation.Aswithotheroptions,itis

    highlyrecommendedyousavetheprojectinthesameworkspaceasallotherprojects.

    ImportingandExportingProjectArchives

    ExportingaProjectArchiveisafeatureusedforsharingaProjectwithotherusersorforcreatingabackup.

    WhenyoucreateaProjectArchive,a.3darchivefilewillbecreated.Thisfilecanbesenttoanotherusertobe

    imported,allowingmultipleuserstoopenthesameworldfileondifferentmachineswithaproperfolder

    orDownusingtheMouseWheelbutton(ifapplicable).Inadditiontozooming,youcanalsorepositionthe

    previewImagebyclickingandholdingdowntheleftmousebuttonovertheimageanddraggingitinany

    direction.Themousecursorwillchangeintoasmallhandtoindicatethattheimagecanbedragged.

    Itispossibletoimportmultiplefloorsintoone3DWorldbyusingtheImportArchitecturalModeloption

    incorrect

    scale.

    In

    the

    case

    thatthishappens,adialogwillappeartonotifyyouthatascaleincompatibilityhasbeendetected,withan

    optiontoconvertthescaleusingadifferentunitoflength.Theavailableunitsoflengththatwillbedisplayed

    aredynamicallygeneratedaccordingtothescaleoftheAutoCADfile.Thisensuresthatonlytheclosest

    availableunitoflengthconversionismadeavailablefromthedialog'sdropdownmenu.

    ImportinganArchitecturalModelwithcomplexgeometryOccasionallyyoumayimportanAutoCADwhichhasgeometrythatistoocomplexforthePelco3DDesignTooltoproperlycalculateandrenderafloor.Ifthishappens,anotificationmessagewillappearandthefilewillbeimportedwiththefloorasaplanethatcoverstheentiremodel.

    ConfigurationFilesforImportedArchitecturalModels

    Everytimeanarchitecturalmodelhasbeenimported,thePelcoDesignToolwillautomaticallycreateaconfigurationfile(.cfg)inthesamefolderwheretheAutoCAD's(.dwg)fileislocated.Thisisdonesothatanyimportedlayersyouchosethefirsttimewillstillalreadybeimportedthenexttimeyouimportthefileagain.ThePelco3DCameraDesignToolwillalsocreateageometry(.dae)fileinthesamefolder.ThisfilecontainstheCOLLADAgeometryofthemodel.UsingthePelco3DCameraDesignToolTheLocator

    OntheleftsideofthePelcoToolwindowisapanelcalledtheLocator.Itcontainsalistofallthedifferentelementscurrentlypresentinthe3DWorld(theWorldTree).Thisincludesbuildings,floors,andeventuallycameras,doors,placemarksandviewpoints.

    Toviewthedifferentfloors,simplyclickonthemtobringuptheir3Dlayout.

    Doubleclickingoneachiteminthelocatorwillhavetheviewpointfocusonthem.

    Torenameanyobjectinthelocator,simplyrightclickonthemandselect"Rename"(orPressF2).

    Todeleteanitem,firstclickontheitemtoselectit,presstheDeletekey(orselectEdit>DeleteItem)andthenconfirmthedeletion.TheLocator

    absolutelyrightinonetry,youcanalwaysadjustthecameraspositionafterwards.Onceacamerahas

    3. ClickonthefieldtotherightofthecameraPresetfield.Thiswillgiveyoutheoptionofeither:

    a. Selectacameramodelfromadropdownmenu;

    b. Clickonthe...buttontobringuptheCameraandLensModelswindow.

    4. Onceyouhaveselectedyourcameramodel,repeatthesamesteps,butnowselectthelensmodelyou

    wouldliketouse.

    ofviewpotential. ThefovXfieldreferstothehorizontalfieldofview,measuredinangulardegrees().

    UnderstandingtheFrustum

    Frustumisthetechnicaltermfortheconelikeprojectionacameradisplaysinthe3Dviewport.Itsmain

    purposeistoshowyouwhatareathecameracoverswithitscurrentangleandFOV.

    Whenyoumoveacamera,youwillnoticethatthefrustumfollowsalong,alwayshighlightingtheareavisibleto

    thecamera.

    You

    can

    confirm

    this

    by

    comparing

    the

    area

    covered

    by

    the

    frustum

    to

    what

    you

    can

    see

    in

    the

    SelectedCameraViewpanel.

    Anexampleofafrustumandhowithighlightswhatthecameracansee

    Bydefault,thePelco3DCameraDesignToolwillhaveCoverageProjectionmodeenabledtoshowyouwhere

    camerasoverlapbyhighlightingoverlappingfrustumsinadifferentcolor.Thisallowsyoutoinstantlyseehow

    muchcoverageyouaregettinginaspecificareaandhowwellmonitoredcertainareasare.Theywillalsohelp

    youinidentifying(anddealingwith)blindspotsinyoursecuritysetup.

    Threecameraswithoverlappingareasinaction.Noticehowyoucaninstantlyseewhichareashavethemost

    coverage(red,orangeareas)andwheretheblindspotsarelocated(white/greyareas).

    certainzone.

    As stated above, doors should be designed as a completely separate layer from walls, windows etc.

    OneofthelimitationsofimportinganarchitecturalmodelisthatthePelco3DCameradesigntoolcancompute

    onlyonecontiguousfloorsurfaceatatime.Thelargestfloorsurfacewillbeprioritized,butanyothersmaller

    detachedroomsinthemodelwillbeimportedwithoutafloor.
