WASTE MANAGEMENT !A GROWING PROBLEM & AN OPPORTUNITY TO WEALTH

Problem!impacts on health,

environment, and society in general !

Opportunity!Creation of jobs

and wealth through enterprises that

address the problem!

THIS NEEDS!Waste Management Systems that

allow for the proper profiling of the waste problem and opportunities

less waste production!recycling!

recovery of minerals!generate energy!proper disposal!

improved health!better environment and

society in general!employment creation!

Source of Regenerative Waste

Any Organic and Combustible Matter

Most important Source is Agriculture. !-The productive base of the Eco-System

Page 6: Pelleting Waste to Energy- Agriculture Waste

What happens to waste in general?

❖ recycled !

❖ recovered minerals/materials!

❖ used to generate energy!

❖ disposed!

❖ burnt

Waste management systems allows for accurate estimate!- of the sources of waste!- means of waste generation!- the type of waste and quantities. !This can lead to targeted action to improve value of waste

Page 7: Pelleting Waste to Energy- Agriculture Waste

Waste Management Systems Policy Instruments and Institutional Structures

❖ Policies guiding how waste should be handled and treated!

❖ Institutions with the right kind of technically capable staff and appropriate skills!

❖ Well resourced both with human and financial capital

Possible Business Opportunities

❖ Generate enterprises focused on reducing waste production (efficiencies)!

❖ Develop businesses focused on recycling of waste!

❖ Introduce new businesses driven by new technologies on minerals/materials recovery!

❖ Establish businesses that use waste to generate energy depending on the type and quantities

Pellet

Biomass pellets are sustainable renewable energy alternative to gas, oil and electricity

❖ It is a biomass product made of renewable substances – generally recycled wood waste!

❖ Biomass is renewable. !

❖ Pellets burn is consistent and efficient !

❖ It produces a fraction of the particulate emissions of raw biomass.

!!!!!Compacted uniform in size, shape, moisture, density and energy content. !The moisture content is substantially lower (4% to 8% water–compared to 20% to 60% for raw biomass !The density of fuel is substantially higher than raw biomass !They are more easily and predictably handled. !Their uniform shape and size allows for a smaller and simpler feed system that reduces costs !!!!!!!!!!!
