Pediatric Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group Meeting Minutes
June 13th 2019
Agenda Item Introduction and Apologies
Camilo Gutierrez, chair of the IFEM Paediatric Emergency Medicine Special Interest Group, welcomed all members and guests to the inaugural Annual meeting of the group. Apologies accepted from the members who could not attend ICEM Seoul 2019.
Presentation of the Executive Committee to all members
Camilo presented Ffion Davies as the Chair of the Clinical Practice Committee which is in charge of 11 Special Interest Groups including PEMSIG. Special Thank you was made to the PEMSIG Members who help in the scientific programme this year.

PEM Marketplace was briefly discussed and thanks were circulated to the 20 invited speakers that agreed to participate in the MARKETPLACE in KOREA 2019. Marketplace to follow the meeting this evening. Finally plans for PEMSIG Social Meeting at Lobby Bar of Intercontinental Seoul COEX
Report from Chair Camilo gave a summary of how PEMSIG was formed and how the group has grown in the last years. Also, the need to engage more people into PEMSIG
He mentioned our strategic objectives for the next 2 years.
Report from other lead roles
Standards Document Lead • Rodrick Lim
Rod explain the process of how the document was updated and explain the origin of the first document on 2012. Announced that the document was approved by IFEM Executive Committee and soon it will be published in IFEM website. The next 2 years will be the translation of the project in different languages. First Spanish and Chinese. Rod stated how important will be knowledge to translation and adaptation to low resources countries in collaboration with WHO and Lee Wallis as lead. Ffion stated the importance of an executive summary of the document and mentioned the importance to contact Miranda from communications for strategies to distribute the document in social media and print versions.
• ACTION ITEMS: For the Translations:
• Spanish: will get in contact with Spanish translation committee. Liliana Caceres from Argentina and Adriana Yock from Costa Rica will be in charge of this translation.
• Chinese: It was proposed to ask members from Singapore and Hong Kong for the translation or as another to contact people from Taiwan who are hosting ICEM in 2024.
For the Disemination: • Reach out to Specialty Implementation Committee • Needs to be a document not a link in the IFEM website
PEM Roadmap lead • Camilo Gutierrez
Camilo explain that the Roadmap project is very important and the plan is for it to be ready by 2020 in Buenos Aires.
Practical Resources - Practical Tools Lead and Weblinks Lead • Haiko Jahn • In charge to get facebook page, PEMSIG website . Thank to IFEM for all the
support. It has been a journey to get the website as it is today. Raise awareness with @PEMSIG to highlight everything in PEM.
• Camilo ask Carol Reardon and James Ducharnne if it was possible to get our website to look like the Geriatric SIG webpage.
PEM Education Curriculum Lead
• Rahim Valani (absent in the meeting-Camilo gave update) • PEM Commentary to the IFEM Curriculum Framework Document was
approved by IFEM Core Curriculum and Education Committee and is pending IFEM Board approval. Plan is to submit to the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine for Publication.
PERN UPDATE • Franz Babl
Now 8 members…PEMCRC, PECARN, PERC, PREDICT, REPEM, PERUKI, RiSEUP and new in the network RIDEPLA from Latin America. Listed some of the recent studies in PERN (Pneumoniae, Asthma, etc). Colin Powell explain how he was trying to establish a middle east network. Prashant Majayan Chair of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine from U. Michigan explain about the Emergency Global Network project as a data network research education. Already 14 countries in this network. Prashant spoke with Franz about collaboration between different networks.
Open discussion Camilo Lead the open discussion in different topics to discuss future ideas. 1. Creating a "database" of members contemplating assisting future ICEM's so
we can develop a list to be used to plan experts in different PEM topics and Marketplace.

2. Interacting with other SIG’s
– Pediatric Ultrasound Curriculum – Pediatric Disaster Response – Pediatric Trauma
3. Identify and engage the key PEM experts in regions where is not recognized or even exists
– Africa (PEM/CC Residency Kenya) – Europe (EuSEM – Italy - Spain - France - Finland) – Latin America (SLEPE) – Asia (China, Korea, Japan, etc)
4. James Ducharne (IFEM President) spoke about the specialty
implementation committee. Specially in giving focus on reaching out developing systems that are struggling and trying to develop things.
5. Simon Chu spoke about the importance for General EM physicians to feel comfortable treating children and that we should be aiming in the next years in getting into that.
6. Ffion gave a brief explanation about the CPC committee and how they can
connect with each other and improved the contributions each SIG can give to the meeting’s contents.
