• At each column location in each row of I there is a value.
• The pair ( p, I( p) ) is called a “pixel” (for picture element).

Segmentasi Citra
Segmentasi citra adalah proses membagi citra menjadi beberapa segmen (kumpulan piksel). Tujuan dari segmentasi adalah menyederhanakan dan/ merubah representasi citra menjadi sesuatu yang lebih berarti dan lebih mudah dianalisa. Segmentasi khusus dipakai untuk mencari lokasi obyek dan batasan obyek (line,kurva) pada citra. Segmentasi citra adalah proses memberi label pada setiap piksel pada citra sedemikian hingga piksel dengan label yang sama bergabung dengan piksel lainnya menjadi karekteristik visual yang tertentu

Kompresi Citra adalah meminimalkan ukuran byte dari file grafik tanpa menurunkan kualitas citra. Pengurangan ukuran file memungkinkan lebih banyak citra yang dapat disimpan pada ruang disk/memori. Kompresi citra juga mengurangi waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk mengirim citra melalui internet atau di download dari halaman web Untuk pemakaian di internet file kompresi yang banyak dipakai adalah format jpeg dan giff.
