Themes In your teams, explore the themes of justice, sacrifice and freedom. In your team, you are to construct a storyboard that educates the rest of the class about the key themes in your novel. You will use this storyboard as a plan for the imovie you will construct for your formal task. You need to:

wdefine the themes winclude an image that represents these themes wprovide examples of the themes that have been tracked throughout the text (check your stickies) wmake a statement about how this theme reflects the situation of war (social, emotional, physical impacts).

Your team needs to brainstorm at least six words that describe your themes and use these in your storyboard. Each group is to present their storyboard to the rest of the class. Students will provide peer feedback to each team.

Your teacher will revise CHIPS strategy and introduce PETEEEL (Point, explanation, technique, example, explain, effect, link). Using the theme of friendship, explain how war forces characters to learn about themselves. Your teacher will guide you in annotating the parts of PETEEEL.

Holiday Fun Activity

You will be provided with a scaffold for writing an exposition.

You are to compose an exposition in response to “War has no winners or losers only victims that need to rebuild their lives the best way they can”. Your response will be based on what you have learnt from reading Once. You need to firstly CHIPS this activity. Compose multiple drafts to improve your response. Apply COPS when editing your work. Remember to use your stickies and the notes in your workbook to assist you in formulating your ideas and to provide evidence from the novel. Submit for teacher feedback on the first day back from holidays. Please submit your plan and all drafts along with your final copy.
