Atheist Mom Touts Next Generation of Free
Thinkers
Pennsylvania Pastors Network Cites Unbelief of the Rising Generation
as a Threat to Liberty and Freedom
Key Facts:
Atheist Mom Blogger Deborah Mitchell recently published an article about
raising an unbelieving child on CNN.com, which prompted a harsh exchange of
partisan comments from a diverse audience.
In her article, Mitchell flaunted her parenting of a non-believing child, stating that
she and others like her are creating the next generation of kids a wave of
young agnostics, atheists, free thinkers, and humanists rising up through the rankswho will hopefully lower our nations religious fever.
Sam Rohrer, President of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network, cites the unbelief of
the current and rising generation as a primary reason that liberty is at risk in
America, and that the nations Judeo-Christian heritage must be preserved iffreedom is to continue.
PHILADELPHIA In a recentCNN.com blog post, atheist and mom Deborah Mitchelldiscussed the raising of her son as an atheist, based on the fact that God is a bad parent and
role model who is not logical or fair and doesnt protect the innocent. She further
asserts that religion is a personal effect that should be kept at home or church and that
government and schools should make decisions based on what is logical and fair.
Sam Rohrer, President of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network (www.papastors.net) says that
this belief system actually does the opposite of what Mitchell intends, and servesto undermine the very liberty and freedom that she wants to protect for her son.
The notion that civil freedom, prosperity, and security can exist separate from God is
fallacious. Even William Penn here in Pennsylvania made it very clear that only if thecitizens self-govern themselves can there be a free nation, otherwise tyrants and dictators

rule, said Rohrer. . Penn said that the Experiment of self-government could only occur,
however, if people governed themselves according to the 10 Commandments of God. This
was the basis for Penns Holy Experiment. Years later, Benjamin Franklin made it clear
that no nation could rise, and no republic could be maintained without Gods direct help. Asthe Scripture makes it clear and history confirms, blessed only is the nation whose God is
the LORD.
Rohrer and the Pennsylvania Pastors Network believe that if Biblical morality which
provided the foundation for the American constitution is completely lost in a generation
of non-believers, that government infringement and tyranny will be the necessary result.
The blessing of civic freedoms can only continue if our citizens and our politicians
remember that the rights of Life, Liberty, and Property ownership are sacred and come from
God, Rohrer concluded. This concept will only continue if people understand that Godsuniversal, moral law is found in the Bible. It is this simple realization that underpins the
charge to Christians to be salt and light designed to be the preservative in our culture and
necessary to uphold and defend the freedom we have enjoyed since our inception as a
nation.
In order to preserve this common moral code, Rohrer and thePennsylvania PastorsNetwork are urging pastors to better equip congregations to understand more precisely what
is in the Bible, what God expects of His people, and what practicing Christianity looks like
in daily life.
One prime way that the Pennsylvania Pastors Network helps pastors to stand for Gods
truth and its inclusion in public life is through its Pulpit Sundays, which occur on the first
Sunday each month. On Pulpit Sundays, pastors are urged to preach morally relevant
sermons that teach people what God wants for Christians in their daily lives.
The Pennsylvania Pastors Network website continues to offer a wealth of resources to
pastors to help them equip their congregations to live a Christian life, from sermon notes tocorporate prayers for our nation, to resources for laypeople, covering everything from
preparation to finances.
The Pennsylvania Pastors Network is a group of biblically faithful clergy and churchliaisons whose objective is to build a permanent infrastructure of like-minded clergy
who affirm the authority of Scripture, take seriously Jesus command to be the salt and
light to the culture, encourage informed Christian thinking about contemporary socialissues; examine public policy issues without politicizing their pulpits and engage their
congregations in taking part in our political process on a non-partisan basis.
The Pennsylvania Pastors Network is a part of Let Freedom Ring, Inc., a 501c(4) non-
profit organization. To contact them visit.www.papastors.netor call610-793-1800.
