Volunteer Recycling Instructions: Since 2011, The Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh

Marathon has lead the way with an innovative resource recovery program with a partnership from the Pennsylvania Resources Council and City of Pittsburgh. In support of our goals to make this a Zero Waste Event, you will notice a comprehensive recycling program and volunteer instructions. Please follow the below instructions to assist the event in exceeding our recycling efforts. We appreciate your support!

Picture Item Instructions Waste Diversion

Landfill items (e.g., plastic yellow packaging straps, tape, zip ties, chips bags,

GU Packs, granola bar wrappers and coffee

cups/lids.

Place items in a separate container or bag for DPW or PRC to collect Trash containers will not be

provided

Note: Do not leave black trash bags next to public waste diversion stations

Recyclable plastics 1-5 & 7, metals (tin and clean

aluminum foil, etc.), paper (newspaper, magazines,

etc.)

‘Clean’ plastic film (e.g., bubble wrap, plastic bags, plastic film, and produce

bags)

Place in ‘blue’ recycling bag provided and place in

the street for Environmental Services

or PRC to collect

Place ‘clean’ and ‘dry’ plastic film into one large

clear bag for PRC to collect

All water cups are to be placed in a clear bag and

picked up by Environmental Services.

Place full bags(s) of water cups to the side for

Environmental Services to collect

Cardboard

Flatten and place in designated location for Environmental Services or PRC to collect. Only flattened boxes will be

collected

Step 2: You will be contacted by a PRC representative for any additional questions.

Step 3: If interested in pursuing a Zero Waste Event, a proposal will be crafted.
