Acts 6 For the church to change our world it will take more than a few people finding their ministry. The whole body of Christ has a ministry. As we each find that ministry, the church is effective. The role of the pastor 1. To lead the church 2. To minister the word of God 3. To pray for the church 4. To help others discover their ministry and be released into it

(Ephesians 4:11-13) The role of other leaders in the church 1. To be full of the Holy Spirit 2. To be full of wisdom 3. To assume the role they are called to do with the support of the whole church 4. To help lead the ministries to the people

The role of everyone – all of us are ministers! 1. To go to the people full of grace and power 2. To show God’s love and concern for the people so that they see God in us. 3. To bring wonders and signs to the people 4. To speak God’s word and wisdom 5. To stand in the face of opposition 6. To see the number of disciples increase and people become obedient to the faith.

Memorial DayThis year, Memorial Day will be celebrated differently: Parades have been canceled; Family gatherings will be smaller; Thoughts of recreation and kicking off the summer will be tempered by physical distancing. As we adjust our expectations to this reality, we have an opportunity to spend some time reflecting on who we as a Nation are memorializing.

The story of the United States is the story of a people’s quest for freedom and the human cost of establishing the “land of the free.” When we see the flags placed in honor of the fallen, our hearts swell with gratitude for the selfless sacrifice of those “who more than self their country loved.”

Jesus told His disciples that to lay down one’s life for his or her friends is the most significant expression of love. Through the centuries, the men and women of the US Armed Forces paid the ultimate price to keep our country free. So, too, the Son of God laid down His life to secure our eternal freedom. Freedom from sin. Freedom from guilt. Freedom from fear. Freedom to serve Him.

As the Church in these United States, we are the children of God who happen to be free citizens of this country. For as long as God continues to bless our Nation with freedom, let us use well the time we have to be His witnesses in the world.

This Memorial Day, let us offer up prayers: Prayers of thanksgiving for the blessing of a free country; Prayers of intercession for the surviving families of the ones who gave all; Prayers of petition for the protection of all who today serve our country.
