Pentecost 26 November 18, 2018
THANKSGIVING EVE WORSHIP
Wednesday, November 21, 7:00 PM
Worship & Holy Communion
We are asking that each family unit bring a loaf of bread, whether home made or store bought, to the Thanksgiving Eve Service. As a part of our worship, we will be doing a bread exchange and encouraging each family to pray for the family
that gave the bread. HOLIDAY OFFICE HOURS The church office and the Faith Child Care office will be closed on
Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. Regular office hours
resume Monday, November 26.
MATT’S COATS FOR KIDS There are boxes outside the entrance to the Library for donations of new
and gently used coats, (new only) mittens, gloves, and hats, and (new only)
socks. We will be collecting through November 25.
HANGING OF THE GREENS Come help decorate our building to celebrate Christmas. This year we're
going to do the decorating next Sunday, November 25! We'll begin right
after the 10:45 service with a light lunch (provided) and then get to work.
We'll put up the tree, hang garlands, put up the banners, assemble the
handheld candles, and have a great time as we prepare for Advent and
Christmas! But we need YOUR help. With many hands the job will be quick
and easy, and it's guaranteed to be fun! So join us – November 25 at noon!
Sign up at the Information Center or indicate on your Connection Card
that you will be there to help!
SPECIAL MONDAY EVENING CLASS On November 26 and December 3, Lyle Heggemeier will lead a special class
to study and discuss one of the most intriguing aspects of the birth of Jesus
– the “star.” A theory has been put forth recently about this unusual
phenomena in a DVD titled The Star of Bethlehem. We’ll watch a segment of
this production on both nights and then discuss what we’ve heard and
seen. The class is open to anyone interested in knowing more about the
topic. We’ll meet in the Community Room from 7:00-8:15.
ALTAR GUILD MEETING - SATURDAY, DEC. 1 The Faith Lutheran Altar Guild is meeting Saturday morning, December 1,
at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Room. All current Altar Guild members
are asked to attend. Anyone interested in joining Altar Guild is welcome to
come join us. Most of the work is done for about 1 ½ hours on Saturday
mornings. On communion Sundays the work is done between services and
after late service. If you have any questions, please call Debbie
Heggemeier (425-2092) or Kris Messner (671-9711).
DECEMBER PRIME TIME – MONDAY, DEC. 3, 12pm Following a potluck lunch at noon in the Community Room, a speaker from
the Pike Glass Studio will present a program on the art of making stained
glass windows. This is an excellent followup to the tour of our own
sanctuary we had in October. Sign up to attend at the Information Center.
GINGERBREAD HOUSE DECORATING December 6, 6:00 dinner, 6:30 decorating Each family will receive a house to
decorate together. Please bring a bag of
candy to share. We are asking for a
donation of $10 per family to go towards
the costs involved. Sign up at the
Information Center by December 2 to
guarantee a spot.

A Note of Thanks from Connie Humphries Giving “thanks” at Thanksgiving: I gratefully thank friends in our Faith family for all the love and support you’ve extended to me and my family this past year. God has heard prayers for Elise and Cindy, and we all have been lifted by the inquiries and concerns expressed to them and to me. Cindy has been declared cancer free; Elise continues treatment to which she’s responding favorably and positively. I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving and sincerely extend my appreciation for being there for us. =======================================================
GOT THE HOLIDAY BLUES?
You may view yourself as someone who looks forward to the joy of the holiday season. Yet “the blues” can still sneak in when you’re feeling overwhelmed by expectations, disappointment, and grief. Set aside some time for yourself. Meet with a Stephen Minister. He/she is ready to listen. Reach out to Nancy Hammond (381-6968) or Jackie Welk (749-7343).
Extended Family & Friends People remain listed on this list for four weeks following printing in the worship bulletin, unless additional time is requested. Please notify Carol Keeler if any changes need to be made.

FOR MOTHERS OF LITTLE ONES If you are in need of a private, comfortable place to feed your baby while at
Faith, we have a room designated especially for you. The Nursing Lounge
in the coat hallway has a rocking chair and couch, with an adjoining private
bathroom for mothers who need a quiet moment on Sunday mornings.
STEPHEN MINISTRY Faith is a Stephen Minister congregation, and is blessed with many
specially-trained, caring people available to listen and provide confidential,
one-on-one care and counseling for anyone going through tough times. If
you would like to begin care, or find out more about this ministry, please
contact Pastor Ben (485-0143), Nancy Hammond (381-6968), or Jackie
Welk (749-7343).
ALTAR FLOWERS Sponsoring a weekly flower arrangement is a wonderful way to remember
or honor someone or to celebrate an event. There is a flower calendar
across from the church office (on the middle bulletin board) on which you
may select your Sunday. Note your name for that date, take and complete
an Altar Flowers Request Form, and return it to Carol Keeler. A minimum
payment of $30 is requested toward the total cost of $65 for each
arrangement of fresh flowers delivered weekly from Arena’s Florist.
FAITH FOOD PANTRY & PAPER GOODS COLLECTION Donations of non-perishable food and paper goods (paper towels, toilet
paper) are given to the Penfield Food Shelf. Items such as pasta, tuna,
soup, canned fruits and vegetables, and other nutritional foods may be left
at any time in the grey bin inside the main entrance doors.
ONLINE GIVING Giving online is easy and allows you to set up recurring contributions and
view your complete online giving history from anywhere you have access
to the internet. Giving online allows you to securely make a one-time
donation or set up automatic recurring contributions. To get started, visit
the church website at www.faithpenfield.org and select GIVING.

THE SEASON AFTER PENTECOST BANNER Designed and made by Marla Friedrich
This banner represents the growth of the church, from the past through
the present and on into the future. At the center is the cross, with rays
that reach always beyond us, piercing the darkness, leading us to brave the
unknown. Near the central cross, a segmented circle represents the
twelve disciples. Moving outward, the church takes on different kinds of
structures, represented by the square shapes. Then the circle returns,
representing the unity of all Christians, hoping to be as disciples in the
present time. Beyond it, yet another circle is just in the process of forming.
This outer circle represents those venturing into places not yet touched by
Christ’s love.
