The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him vinegar, and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!" There was also an inscription over him, "This is the King of the Jews." One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!" But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." !

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: We have come to the final Sunday after the Feast of Pentecost. It is also the last Sunday of the Church’s year and is observed as the Feast of Christ the King. !The observance of the Liturgical Year presents a fascinating way of looking at time. !As Christians we are not just saying that we move from one day to another; but rather within the

movement of time we have observed the presence of God almighty having dominion over our lives. !It is within the context of time that we celebrate the Eucharist with the understanding that we keep the Paschal Mystery ever before our eyes as being ever present. !As Professor Kevin Irwin puts it, the Paschal Mystery is not simply an observance of past events, but that our Lord, crucified, resurrected and ascended is ever with us and that the coming of the Holy Spir i t keeps a l l o f th is in our remembrance. !In the Paschal Mystery we make the point that our Lord reigns. He reigns in Heaven and in earth, that is, within the whole orb of earth and in the depth of the sea. !It is vital for us theologically and spiritually to have our Lord enthroned within our hearts and within our homes. !This makes the Feast of Christ the King t remendous ly impor tant . I t i s when we acknowledge Christ as Lord and King that we may see a difference in the way in which we respond to him. !Not only that, but also the way in which we relate to each other and to situations in general. !As we celebrate the 47th anniversary of Independence at the end of this week, we must give thanks to our Lord and God who has seen as through many difficult times as we beseem him to give us the spirit of endurance at this time of

economic difficulty. We pray that our Lord be enthroned in all areas of public and private life and especially in our homes. !It is when our Lord is enthroned in our homes that we will see a return of the children of our nation to Sunday School, Children’s Bible Study sessions and those other character building exercises that will help them to value themselves and others. !We say three cheers for Barbados, Our Island Home as we pray that God may truly bless Bim on Independence Day. !Your friend and priest, !!Noel A. We Welcome back the members of the Silver Stars who returned from their week long cruise on the Carnival Valor on Wednesday morning. !

INDEPENDENCE SERVICE The service to mark the 47th anniversary of the Independence of Barbados will be held this afternoon at 4:00pm in the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. The 2nd Reading in the Service will be done by Ms. Lisa Williams of our congregation. !

ADVENT RETREAT The Christian Formation Commission will be having its annual Advent Retreat on Saturday December 14, 2013, at Codrington College. It starts at 9.00 am and will end at 1.15 pm. There will be the Laying on of Hands and Anointing” at 12.15 pm. Participants are asked to bring a

“healthy” packed lunch. However, a snack will be offered at break. No registration fee will be charged – this Retreat is free of cost. Please note that registration will take place at the Diocesan Office and the deadline date for participants is Monday, December 9, 2013. Those attending tare requested to bring with them the Book of Common Prayer and the CPWI Hymnal.

HEALTH GUILD There will be a special walk on November 30 to celebrate our 47th Anniversary of Independence. We leave the Hall at 5:30 a.m. move along Cox Road, through Edey Village, Frère Pilgrim, turn right at the Coral Ridge roundabout, move along to Chickmont, turn right and come back to Bannatyne on to St. David. Please wear Independence colours. Breakfast will be the reward for the long walk. !
