Good Samaritan Sunday In addition to being Easter, Sunday, April 05, is Good Samaritan Sunday, when we remember the mission work that goes on right here in our midst through the work of the Good Samaritan Center. Offerings of food and money for the Center will be received along with the regular Morning Offering.
Summer Camps and Conferences Through John Knox Ranch and Mo Ranch, there are many opportunities for young people to attend Summer Church Camps and Conferences. Information is available on line at www.johnknoxranch.com and www.moranch.org.
Confirmation / Commissioning Class The Confirmation / Commissioning process provides an opportunity for young people to explore the matter of Church membership: why one might choose to become a member of the church, and how to make that happen. The study will cover essentials of the Christian faith: the Apostles' Creed, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord's Prayer. It will also examine how the good news of Jesus Christ can work itself out in one's life through Church membership, and how our Church lives out its mission. At the end of the process, young people will have the option of being received into membership, making a public profession of faith (not as scary as it sounds), and being commissioned for responsible participation in the Church's mission. Should any decide not to go further, freedom of choice will be respected. Interested? Talk it over as a family, feel free to ask for more information, and notify the Church Office of the intention to participate, so materials can be prepared.. The Class meeting schedule follows. (Make-up classes will be available should it be necessary to miss a meeting): Sunday, April 19 – Class #1 (2:00 – 4:00 PM)
Introduction to Confirmation/Commissioning The Study Catechism, Questions 1 - 4 "The Apostles' Creed," Questions 5 - 67+
Sunday, April 26 – Class #2 (2:00 – 4:00 PM)
"The Ten Commandments," Questions 68 - 94 Sunday, May 03 – No Class Sunday, May 10 – Class #3 (2:00 – 4:00 PM)
"The Lord's Prayer," Questions 95 - 106 Sunday, May 17 – Class #4 (2:00 – 4:00 PM)
Review and Final Exam Sunday, May 24 – Day of Pentecost 10:40 - Meeting with Session 11:00 - Morning Worship, including Public Profession of Faith and Baptism

Child Protection Policy Orientation and Screening: In accordance with our Session’s Child Protection Policy, volunteer orientation is held periodically to enable our church to “work diligently to provide a safe and secure environment for children and youth, while also ensuring the same for adults to whom children and youth are entrusted.”
If you anticipate volunteering for any activity involving children (for example, Vacation Bible School), you must participate in the Volunteer Screening, which includes several steps:
1. You will be apprised of the purpose of the program and given a copy of the policy statement. 2. You will be asked to complete a Volunteer Application form and watch the training video. 3. A criminal background check will be conducted.
Please notify the Church Office of your interest. All information gathered will be kept in the strictest confidence; the entire process generally takes no more than an hour. If you would like to view the introductory video, with no commitment to proceed with the screening process, you are more than welcome to do so. A copy is on reserve in the church office.
“Sunday is a Comin’”by the late Dr. S.M. Lockridge. Shadrach Meshach Lockridge (March 7,
1913 – April 4, 2000) was the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, a prominent African-American congregation located in San Diego, California, from 1953 to 1993. He was known for his preaching across the United States and around the world. He held doctorates and numerous honorary degrees and was often sought as a public speaker, even after he retired in 1993. It’s Friday
Jesus is praying Peter’s a sleeping Judas is betraying
But Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
Pilate’s struggling The council is conspiring The crowd
is vilifying
They don’t even know
That Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The disciples are running Like sheep without a
shepherd Mary’s crying Peter is denying But they
don’t know
That Sunday’s a comin’
It’s Friday
The Romans beat my Jesus They robe him in scarlet
They crown him with thorns But they don’t know
That Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
See Jesus walking to Calvary His blood dripping His
body stumbling And his spirit’s burdened
But you see,
it’s only Friday
Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The world’s winning People are sinning And evil’s
grinning
It’s Friday
The soldiers nail my Savior’s hands To the cross
They nail my Savior’s feet To the cross And then
they raise him up Next to criminals
It’s Friday
But let me tell you something
Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
The disciples are questioning What has happened to
their King And the Pharisees are celebrating That
their scheming Has been achieved But they don’t
know
It’s only Friday
Sunday’s comin’
It’s Friday
He’s hanging on the cross Feeling forsaken by his
Father Left alone and dying Can nobody save him?
Ooooh
It’s Friday
But Sunday’s comin’

The Living Last Supper
A Dramatic Musical Experience
by Ruth Elaine Schram
Performance Details: Maundy Thursday Service of Worship,
April 2nd, 7 o’clock in the Fellowship Hall
Performance time: Approximately 35 minutes
The Last Supper, one of Christianity's most significant events portrayed by Leonardo Da Vinci centuries ago is
brought to life in this remarkable work by Ruth Elaine Schram. Her music deftly and passionately captures the
event while one at a time each apostle delivers a poignant monologue expressing his astonishment at Jesus'
assertion one of them will betray Him that night. Don’t miss this emotionally charged recreation of The Last
Supper. It is truly a highly dramatic and memorable presentation sure to keep the audience glued to their seats
in stunned silence long after the last note has sounded. IMPORTANT NOTE: A Celebration of the Lord’s Supper
by has been incorporated into this performance to make the experience all the more meaningful and personal to
those who choose to partake of it.
Portraying the 12 Apostles are: Tom Jaggard Simon Peter Jad Smith Andrew, Peter’s Brother Rick Roe James, the Lesser—son of Alphaeus Jon Gaskamp James, the son of Zebedee—called the “Son of Thunder” John Jackson Matthew, the publican—tax collector Bruce Goodlock Simon, the Zealot Jake Parr Bartholomew/Nathanael Collin Thompson Philip Scott Hime Thaddaeus/Lebbaeus Dwight Edens John, James’s brother Pete Chamberlain Thomas Bobby Jackson Judas Iscariot And Charles Schuler, Jr. Jesus (non speaking role)
Tunes: “How Great His Love” “Is it I?” “King Triumphant” “His Hands” “You Are the Bread” (Communion will be served) “How Great His Love (Finale)
See you Next YEAR!

WHO DOES WHAT A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, 'You should do it because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee. The husband said, 'You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee.' Wife replies, 'No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee.' Husband replies, 'I can't believe that, show me..' So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages that it indeed says 'HEBREWS.'

Sowing the Seeds of Faith By Nancy Miller
Shelly Homeyer was the speaker at the 2014 Women's Retreat. She talked about her mission work in East Africa. She shared with me contact information for Africa
Renewal Ministries, USA. Tommy and I selected Asia Kagoya as our child to sponsor. Our sponsorship fees provide school tuition, school uniform, shoes, daily lunch,
toothbrush, and medical care as needed. Asia became a member of the Mwangaza Children's Choir, and the choir is currently in a 6 month tour of the United
States. Tommy and I flew to Georgia March 22, and we got to meet Asia! There are no words to describe the joy in our hearts. Asia is one of eight children in a
Muslim family. Her time at A.R.M. has led her to become a Christian----and her father allows her to attend the Christian church! Asia prays daily that her family will
accept Jesus also. The website for more information is [email protected]. The Mwangaza Choir also has a facebook page. The children are loving their
tour, and they are blessing churches from Alabama to Ohio.

Presbyterian Women’s Retreat
More News from Presbyterian Women …
A rainy, gloomy Feb 28th marked the day of the PW Women’s
Retreat this year. Forty ladies gathered to study with Donna
Hyde and enjoy a “Fun Day in the Sun.” A committee of
Susan Brown, Veronica Camehl, Kathy Green, Sandy
Swanson, Nancy Miller, Lois Atwood and Adelaide Marlatt,
planned and carried out the retreat. They were joined by
Janet Gaskamp, Pati Vincent, Sue Smith, John Marlatt,
Larry Cobb, Ann Knox-Smith, Georgia Patterson and Jean
Holland on the day of the event to make it happen. Thanks to
all who played a part in bringing this all together.
There was great study with Donna Hyde, our speaker this year,
great food (both morning refreshments and lunch), and fun crafts
with Veronika. We were even joined at lunch by a real Hawaiian hula
dancer, Ms. Alberta Woods, and her accompanist on the ukulele,
Ms. Fern Olson. Our study theme, “Walking with Christ in
Today’s World” combined with our Hawaiian setting, to provide a
true “Fun Day in the Sun.” Thanks to all who joined us or helped
make this a nice “1st Pres Event.”

The Presbyterian Men’s group gathers for a one-hour meeting and
lunch the first WEDNESDAY of the month at noon in the Church café.
The meeting is open to any man who attends our Church - you don’t
have to be a member to participate.
This month’s meeting is especially important because we have a lot to discuss for our
participation in the Nautical Flea Market. Yes, it’s time again for our one-and-only
annual fundraiser at the Rockport Nautical Flea Market. Money generated at this
event supports our group for the coming year. The flyer on the next page provides
dates and details for the sale. We are in dire need to collect more nautical items,
which we define pretty liberally as fishing, sailing, power boating, new and used parts,
books and charts, art, boats, nautical knick-knacks, etc. Clean out the garage or
storage unit, empty the boat of all that stuff you don’t and will never use. Bring back
and recycle the stuff you bought the last 13 years. Smaller items can be brought to
the Church Office but larger stuff, not so much … instead call the Church office (729-
6251) and The Church Lady will find someone to pick it up.
Prior to this month’s meeting on Wednesday, April 1, we are inviting men and women to
help us mark and pre-sale donated items in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 10:00 am.
All volunteers are welcome to stay for the Men’s luncheon at noon. We need your help
and hope to see you there.

Think….
I'd like to be eight again...
A man asked his wife what she'd like for her birthday. "I'd like to be eight again..." she replied.
On the morning of her birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Coco Pops, and then took her off to the local theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park: the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, every thing there was.
Five hours later she staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down.
Right away, they journeyed to a McDonald's where her loving husband ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a refreshing chocolate shake. Then it was off to the movies with popcorn, all the Coke she could drink, and her favorite M&M's. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his
precious wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, "Well, Dear, what was it like being eight again?" Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. "I meant my dress size!!!!!!!"

THANKS to the following for their generosity in donating their Sanctuary flowers
to The Community Table….
FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY on February 22 were given to the glory of God by Ernest and
Veronika Camehl in celebration of their daughter-in–law Camille's birthday that day and son Jarod's birthday on
Friday, February 27. They were then donated to The Community Table to be
divided into bud vases (as shown on the right) to grace the tables on Tuesday,
February 24 for the meal hosted by Peace Lutheran Church.
But Ernest and Veronika‟s flower gift kept on giving… flowers in the bud vases
were combined together again into a bouquet (see picture on the left) to
decorate the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, February 25, when our church
hosted the first in this year‟s Lenten Lunch series.
FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY on March 15 were given to the Glory of God by Larry and Caren Cobb in
celebration of their grand daughter Charlotte Elaine Smith„s first birthday on
Monday, March 9.
The floral sprays were made into bud vases for the March 17 Community Table
hosted by Sacred Heart Catholic Church who were celebrating St. Patrick‟s Day.
FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY on March 22 were given to the Glory of God by Rusty and Ingrid Little in honor and celebration of their son
Ted‟s birthday on Tuesday, March 24. The floral sprays were donated to The Community Table and divided
into bud vases for the March 25 meal hosted by First Baptist Church who always turns them into lovely
arrangements. Editor’s Note: Since I was out of town the Sunday and Tuesday these flowers graced the
sanctuary and then the Fellowship Hall for The Community Table, regretfully no pictures are available.
FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY on March 29 were given to the Glory of God by Ingrid Little in celebration of the return of Beverly
Jacobson‟s son, CW3 Todd Jacobson and family on Saturday, March 21 after serving 2 years in South
Korea. Both floral sprays were donated to The Community Table for the March 31 meal hosted by the
Lions Club who made them into lovely bud vase arrangements for the evening.

SANCTUARY FLOWER
SPONSORSHIPS in
Sundays still open during
April are the 19th and 26th
for anyone who would like
to reserve one of these dates for a special
dedication, or just to ensure the sanctuary is
decorated.
Consider donating your floral arrangements to The
Community Table afterward. Pictures of them are
inserted in the newsletter along with details
printed in the church bulletin. The flowers are
divided into bud vases to adorn each table on
Tuesday and gifted to diners at the evening’s end.
Please give a huge thank you to Winter Texan, Sara Rempe,
who worked diligently to clean out weeds, plant new flowers
and restore the rock creek area of the corner garden at the
church entrance. It was a big effort and the finished product
will remind us all summer of her gardening efforts. Thank
you, Sara!
