Decisions are made at these meetings which affect all members and parents within our 4-H organization. Meetings are held in February, April, June, August, October and December , normally held at the Extension Office in Durand.

Take part in determining how the money raised is spent and what activities Pepin County 4-Hers will participate in. Your voice will be heard.

Fall Forum November 4-6, 2016

Fall Forum is an opportunity for youth and adult leaders to attend the statewide training weekend with county and state staff. The purpose of Fall Forum: Provide an educational opportunity for youth and adult volunteers ; Develop youth and adult partnerships; Create an engaging environment to facilitate discussion between counties; Provide an opportunity for youth and adult volunteers to be involved in the planning and evaluating of statewide programs.

When: November 4- 6, 2016

SYC Meeting August 3, 2016 Roll Call: Claire Raethke, Hunter Hass, Bri Hass, Lauren Hendel, Jordin McMahon, Alex McMahon, and Maya Young Secretary’s Report: Read over last meetings minutes Treasurer’s Report: As of July 27th there is $5,674.91in the account, we made 332.72 from the diary wagon Fair Recap: There was no Splash Dash 332.72 were made in the Dairy Wagon, we discussed moving it’s location or more signs Jordin sold all the squares for the chicken dumplings and Dale Bauer won We made $338.40 in profits at the silent auction The pies raised $500 dollars and prices went well at the live auction Lauren got 2nd place in the coloring contest and there were lots of entries Cloverbud and Explorer judging went well Marie grabbed some kids to help with the kiddie and pet parades Suggestions: Maybe a two day fair? Parent Leader Federation Meeting Minutes for June 8, 2016

Attendance: Jan, Dave, Judy, Lori

Pledges recited, Dave read minutes from the April 13 2016 meeting, Judy made a motion to accept

minutes as read, Lori 2nd

Judy gave treasure report $ 6,683.78 total after checks and deposits, Dave motion to accept treasure

report and Lori 2nd. There was an additional donation of $ 300 for deposit since the treasure report was

prepared. Theme for the fair was shared with clubs at the last meeting, date that fair entries are due,

work dates and volunteer needs were shared at club meetings, The Pie Baking contest is new and need

to get out to the clubs. A bench was approved in honor of Birdie. Several members will be leaving this

month on there Service Learning and Trips that were awarded. A full fair schedule will be advertised

soon. Dairy Breakfast will be a week from Saturday, new this year at the breakfast is a Quartet and ma-

gician. Dave will call and confirm what supplies will be available for our use at the fair, ie tables, chairs

& kitchen supplies. Club reports: Waubeek Corners Discussed booth design, Acts of Kindness, demon-

strations given and upcoming music in the park commitment. Chippewa Club: Mini Fair and water

games. Next meeting August 10th @ Durand @ 6:00 Pending Marie's approval. Meeting adjourned by

Lori, 2nd by Judy.

Lacy Quinton's remarks regarding the 4-H trip she participated in this year. This year I went on the American spirit east 4-H trip. While there I got to see amazing places like New York, Boston, and Canada. We learned about every place we went through and stopped at by reports done by us teens called teachable mo-ments. One of my favorite places we went was Massachusetts where we went whale watching, shopped around the Quincy market, and went to a restaurant called Fire and Ice. I also really enjoyed New York. Getting to see the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty was incredible. While on the experience I met many people, some I still keep in touch with today! I'm so glad that I went on this trip to see all these places and learn all the

new things I did.

“Our donations included 4-H sweatshirts, books, stickers, water bottles, pencils, and post cards. While at the hospital we learned a lot about the history of the hospital, and what the hospital has to offer to children up to the age of 18.”

Some of the highlights mentioned by Marsha Heck regarding her 4-H service learning trip to th Portland area: * First time flying * Sea Lions Caves * Prepared meal homeless * Redwood National Forest

* Rode on a railway * Children’s Book Bank -service

* Toured a Navy ship * Asian dumpling making

* Oregon Coast Aquarium * Shriners Children Hospital

Some Comments regarding the service while on the trip “We then went to a church and cooked a meal for the homeless. We planned, bought the groceries, and cooked the meal. The community meal was a very rewarding experience for me because I got to talk to several different people and I got to hear their stories of how they became homeless.”

This July 9-16 I was in

Washington DC on the CWF 4-H trip. While in DC I got to see and experience many

of the great things the city has to offer. From memori-als to an inside look at our nations capital and lots of

good food in between it was a trip I'll never forget. Out of all the memorials the Penta-gon 9/11 Memorial was my

favorite. It has benches that represent each person that died either on the plane or

in the Pentagon on 9/11. Another highlight of my trip was going to Toby's Dinner Theatre where Hairspray

was performed live during the meal. I also met many great people on this trip and would highly recommend it!

September and October are the first months of the new 4-H year.

This is the best time to get new families to join 4-H. Invite them to one of your

meetings, get everyone involved!

4-H Achievement Awards Program

This special awards event is open to all 4-H members and leaders in Pepin County is scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the Pepin School.

This is a county awards program based on the 4-H’ers achievement and learning experience during the 4-H Year (September 2015 through August 2016.) The record book is the evaluation tool on which the awards program is based.

This year again cookies & milk will be served at Achievement Program, this is to encourage people to spend time with family & friends. Invite grandparents & neighbors to come!

2016 4-H ONLINE RE-ENROLLMENT

Starting September 3, 2016 families will be able to re-enroll or enroll in 2017 4-H on-line. If

you have any questions, please contact the UW-Extension Office at 715-672-5214 and we

will help you work through the registration process.

Re-Enroll Members/Leaders To get started with the re-enrollment process, log into 4HOnline (www.wi.4honline.com with your family email and password. On the family home screen, click on the orange button labeled Continue to Family. On your Member/Volunteer list, find the family member you wish to re-enroll and click on Edit next to their name. At the bottom of the next screen, click on the button for Enroll for 2015-2016. You will now see the Personal Information that you entered when you first enrolled. Look over the information and make any corrections. When you are done, click on Continue. Next is the Additional Information screen when you will need to accept the agreements and answer the Photo Release and Accommodations questions. Click Continue when done. The Health Form for members is optional at enrollment, but you could be asked to complete it in the future if you attend any events that require one. Click Continue when done. If you are an adult volunteer and see the Volunteer Screening page, then it has been 4 years since the last time a background check has been completed. You need to check over the answers to the questions and correct as needed. This page will only appear every 4 years. Click Continue when done. On the Participation -> Club screen, confirm the correct club is listed. If you serve in a volunteer role (but not as a project leader) click on Edit and select the volunteer type. Click on Update to save the change. Click on Continue when done. On the Participation -> Projects screen, confirm all the projects you are enrolled in are listed. Add any missing projects. If you are dropping a project, click on Edit for that project and then click on Delete. After making sure all your projects are listed correctly, click on Submit Enrollment.

August brings the official end of the 4-H year and the

time when record books are due. Record books

should be turned in to club leaders on August 15. So to

make it a little easier to do that the Lima Lads and Las-

sies had their end-of-year celebration at Wakanda Park

in Menomonie for an afternoon of swimming in their

great pool on August 14th. Everyone brought their

own lunch plus Angie and Tim brought nachos and

cheese and pop to share

with the whole group. The

weather was perfect!! The high water slide was a

big hit along with trying to cross the pool on

the floating logs. A couple girls spent time on the

lounge chairs working on their tan. It was a

very fun and relaxing af-

ternoon for our club to

enjoy together and a

great way to end the year.

NATIONAL 4H WEEK OCTOBER 2-8, 2016

Hopefully you’ve started making plans to be involved in promoting 4-H during National 4-H

Week. This week is dedicated to 4-H promotion around the entire country. There are so many

ways to spread the good news about 4-H…Get involved personally in recruiting new 4-H mem-

bers. Talk to your friends, tell them about 4-H and show them how rewarding it can be to be

involved. A personal contact from you is always the best

method. Be creative and join in the promotional fun!!

Share the impact 4-H has had in your life. Show your

pride this National 4-H Week, Pepin County is proud to

celebrate the #TrueLeaders we raise to be #4HGrown!

CLUB OFFICERS

This fall clubs will be electing new officers. Before your club holds its election, take time to explain the duties of each

office. The club officer team can play a big role in setting the pace of the club for the coming year. This tip sheet was

adapted from a Minnesota County 4-H Newsletter. The 4-H agent, Marie Ritscher, would be happy to come to a club

meeting to work with members, parents and leaders concerning club officers.

*Duties of President and Vice President — Presidents and Vice Presidents work together to determine the

specific duties that each will have in the club. They should determine “who will do what” from the following—as well as

add any items that may be specific to your club.

*Duties of the Secretary— Accurate club records help maintain orderly business from one meeting to the next.

These books serve as historical documents. Club secretaries and 4-H leaders need to determine what records are

important to maintain..

*Duties of Treasurer —- Club funds should be handled in a business-like way. The president should appoint an

auditing committee to review the books and make sure all is in proper order at the conclusion of the year.

*Club Reporter: Report to the community what the club is doing by sending articles and pictures to local newspapers

and other media.

*Club Historian: Keep record of group’s accomplishments and activities for the year and organize a club scrapbook.

Scrapbook should be durable and written with future generations in mind.

-Keep accurate minutes of all club meetings.

-Keep a complete list of all members and call the role.

-Read letters to the club at meetings.

-Write the club’s letters.

-Notify members when and where meetings will be by

phone, postcard, or by person.

-Assist in deciding club goals and the annual club

program.

-Call meetings to order when both the president and

vice president are absent.

-Complete all club records and reports.

-Preside at all meetings.

-Prepare the meeting agenda with club leader and

other youth leaders of the club.

-Make sure that the meeting place is ready.

-Make sure that the program is ready and thank the

participants.

-Introduce and welcome guests.

-Appoint and work with committees.

-Arrange for elections of officers.

-Serve as chairman of club committees.

-Represent club at county or special occasions.

-Lead officers and members in planning interesting

programs.

-Keep an accurate record of all money received by the

club and all money spent.

-Make a report at each meeting including all money

collected, all money spent and the balance in the

treasury.

-Pay bills only as voted upon by the club and with the

approval of the leader.

-Turn over funds and accurate records to the newly

elected treasurer.

The Lima Lads and Lassies 4-H club finished out the 4-H year by fulfilling a community service activity at Brunner's Seed. Tony Weisenbeck from Brunner's Seed asked our club if we would serve ice cream at their Customer Appreciation Dinner held on Thursday evening August 25th. As farmers came throughout the evening to enjoy a great chicken dinner they finished off their meal by stopping by the dairy wagon where Stephanie, Abby, and Elly

scooped up ice cream on a cone, in a bowl with chocolate syrup, or in a cup for a root bear float. We were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather so everyone could sit and relax and have an enjoyable evening visiting with neighbors. Our next club meeting will be Sunday Sept. 18th at 1:00 at the Durand City Hall. We will be discussing re-enrollment and planning our calendar of activities and meetings for the 2016 - 2017 4-H year.

2016 4-H Arts Camp

The annual statewide Arts Camp for middle school 4-H’ers will

be held on October 1—2 , 2016 at Upham Woods in Wisconsin

Dells. THE 6-8th graders will experience six hours of explora-

tory sessions in communication, music, photography, theater

arts, culinary arts and art in nature. Space is limited, so send an

National 4-H Dairy Conference

About 200 youth from 4-H dairy projects around the U.S. and Canada congregate in Madison for the

National 4-H Dairy Conference held annually in conjunction with World Dairy Expo. Participants

learn about production, processing, marketing and use of dairy products, and develop a broader

understanding of careers available in dairy production, biotechnology, genetics, marketing and other

selected areas. The conference consists of participatory workshops on the University of Wisconsin

campus, speakers, tours and visiting the World Dairy Expo.
