Percussion The MSUM School of Performing Arts presents And “Evening of Steel” Multiple Grammy-winner Andy Narell took the steelpan out of the steelband and brought it into the jazz world! Known as perhaps the most revered steelpan performer and composer on the planet, his music can be heard on television, in movies, and with artists as diverse as Paquito D’Rivera, Dave Samuels, Bela Fleck, Billy Taylor, Spyro Gyra, Tito Puente, Toto, Aretha Franklin, and the Kronos String Quartet. Five-time Grammy winner Mark Walker is one of the most respected drumset artists in the United States. A member of the American jazz group Oregon and a long-time member of the Paquito D’Rivera Quintet, he also leads the Latin jazz group “Rhythm of the Americas.” He has played and/or recorded with a “who’s who” of jazz and popular music, including Michael Brecker, Chucho Valdez, Dianne Reeves, Sammy Davis Jr., Donna Summer, Peter Cetera, Arturo Sandoval, Joe Henderson, Dave Samuels, and Andy Narell. Dr. Allen Teel is Professor of Percussion and World Music at Abilene Christian University. He is an active performer, serving as principal timpanist with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra and playing in numerous venues as a percussionist in orchestral, chamber music, musical theatre, jazz, and world music settings while serving as an in-demand percussion pedagogue and educator. Brad Dutz has performed as a percussionist and hand percussion specialist for over 250 titles, recording with such artists as Alanis Morrisette, KISS, Willie Nelson, Lee Ann Rhymes, Tribal Tech, and David Benoit. He can be heard on multiple TV shows, including “King of the Hill,” “Family Guy,” “American Dad,” “Enterprise,” and “Firefly.” Some of the film soundtracks that Brad has performed on include “The Bourne Legacy,” “Transformers,” “Cowboys and Aliens,” “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Battleship,” and “Anchorman.” Director of World Percussion and Drumset performance at the University of Arizona, Chris Wabich is known as a versatile and original voice on the drumset as well as a gifted producer. His drumming is heard with Ludacris, Sting, Leonard Cohen, Stanley Jordan, Sheila E., the Zappa Family, and Brian Johnson (AC/DC). Most recently, he has been arranging and producing Billboard charting hits for Margo Rey/John Oats (of Hall and Oats), Ty Taylor from Vintage Trouble and the Beatles show, “Both.” Ryan Jackson, Coordinator of the Music Industry Program at MSUM, has built a national reputation as both a music industry pedagogue and audio engineer.
