MOBILITY ANALYSIS FURTHER DETAILS:

To reduce road congestion and promote sustainable transport. Transllnk has expanded Its fleet of rapid transport trains and Is supporting shared moblllty and cycling schemes.

Currently in phase I of its 10-Year Vision for Metro Vancouver Transit and Transportation strategy, Trans Link has ordered 28 new rapid transport trains.

Several municipalities in Metro Vancouver are investing in projects such as bike lanes, multiuse paths, and roadway widening. The government needs to continuously monitor progress as only 1 O locations have seen improved infrastructure for cycling in the last five years.

The city has around 3,000 vehicles in its carsharing network. Convenience, cost savings, and environmental benefits are key reasons for its popularity; meanwhile, the lack of proper regulations for ride-hailing has kept major private operators away.

Vision and leadership

Transllnk's expansion plan responds to the growing demand for transit services In the Metro Vancouver Region. which has a projected population growth of more than one million people In the next 30 years. The 10-Year Vision alms to make strategic Investments In the transportation network.

US$5.S billion investment has been committed to add two new rapid-transit lines and 900,000 hours of bus service, among other service enhancements. Funding concerns continue as around SO percent of transportation funding comes from the federal government, up from 33 percent. especially since an attempt to raise the regional sales tax by 0.5 percent did not go through.

As part of the Renewable City Strategy, Vancouver will develop an EV infrastructure plan to support the transition to renewably powered transportation, expand its 250+ charging stations, and offer low charging fees.

Service and inclusion

Transllnk provides accessible public transport for disabled people and Is also looking to Increase lu transport supply while exploring distance-based pricing.

TransLink's public transport is highly accessible. It also runs a door-to-door shared ride service for people with physical or cognitive disabilities. To improve supply and coverage, it plans to invest US$2 billion to build a light rail transport line in Surrey and increase bus services by 25 percent by 2030.

The transport authority is also considering distance-based pricing to replace the current zone-based pricing model to make the transportation system more convenient and accessible for people traveling from suburban regions.

SUMMARY While Metro Vancouver has a modern and well-integrated transport system, the rapidly growing population is increasing demand, exceeding the current supply, and creating financial pressures. Nonetheless, the region scores highly in terms of transportation vision, accessibility, affordability, and air quality thanks to various initiatives taken by TransLink and a number of municipalities in the region.

The regional transportation authority has a detailed 10-year investment plan to address specific public transit challenges. The city has also taken positive strides in encouraging active mobility. The government is also providing incentives to promote the use of EVs.
