SHAKER INTERIOR DESIGN

To achieve a Shaker interior designwe must first understand what Shaker is. During the mid 1700's a religioussect was founded in England, UK. In1774 the first Shaker village was set

up in America. They remained in NewEngland and New York where theylived lives of abstinence.

They believed in simplicity, communalliving and common ownership. Every

object in the home was devoid of decoration therefore interiorswere rustic and raw.

COLONIAL INTERIOR DESIGN

Colonial interior design ideascan be sourced from American

colonial style or British colonial

style

There are two ways to go withthis design concept as it can be

both rustic interior design or

sophisticated. Rustic is the

'everyday man's' home from thatperiod and the alternative is a

more luxurious look that was

then only available to those who

could afford it

SOUTHWESTERN INTERIOR DESIGN

It is a style inspired by the rich, earthy

tones found in Arizona and New Mexico

mixed with influences from Hispanic

settlers.

Homes in the Southwestern region have

large rooms, high ceilings with exposed

beams and spectacularly spacious

entrances. All to reflect the vast,

surrounding landscape.

PATRIOTIC INTERIOR DESIGN

 American style concept

The stars and stripes of the American flag work

great. You can simply make use of those elements

separately and add stars to decorate a wall or

perhaps use the stripes as upholstery fabric.

Page 11: PERIOD COLORS ASSIGN 2.pptx

PATRIOTIC INTERIOR DESIGN

Capturing the spirit of this style can look super in

a kitchen country design or a funky, retro homage. Accessorizing with dishcloths, tablecloths, place mats,

and general kitchenware combined with artwork for the

walls will instantly highlight a room.

SIMILAR TO COLONIAL INTERIOR DESIGN in its floor, wall, rugs, and furniture designs except that the colors of

the flag are its main color scheme

 ARTS AND CRAFTS STYLE

Developed in reaction to the transformations in

craftsmanship caused by the industrial revolution, it

emphasized individual design and craftsmanship while

also being a social and environmental cause.

It was more than a style but embraced a well-articulated

popular philosophy and aesthetic.

 ARABIAN INTERIOR DESIGN

Modern Arabian interior design is very much about

luxury and is extremely pleasing on the eye. When

tastefully put together the interiors are incredibly

beautiful to look at and even better to enjoy

interior

BEDOUIN (ARABIAN STYLE)

Arabian influenced interiors from the Bedouin days

particularly reflect a rustic, rural look. This style is

about nomadic, desert life and is therefore the

heritage of all Arabian home decor.

The style of Arabian style interiors influenced the

look of Mediterranean homes therefore many

similarities can be found in Greece, Italy and Spain.

Page 25: PERIOD COLORS ASSIGN 2.pptx

BEDOUIN INTERIOR DESIGN

FLOORING

•match your floor with your walls

an older look within your space or, a

wooden type of floor.

WALLING

•achieve a rough surface to

your walls simply by using aspecialized paint finish or perhaps

use a skim of plaster to help you

this would help soften out any hard

edges

DRAPES

Woven tapestry's and floaty fabrics

can be hung on your walls or

draped over seating.

CARPET

 ASIAN INTERIOR DESIGN

This concept is essentially based on influencesfrom the Far East; China, Thailand and Malaysia.

They style is exotic and intriguing.

If it is possible to create an architectural element

similar to the ceilings which you can see in thebelow bedroom images, then splash out and go for

it. This kind of ceiling is often found in typical Asian

homes and really gives you a sense of the orient. It

is created using woven bamboo.

BRITISH INTERIOR DESIGN Typically and probably the best way to introduce

"cool Britannia" into your British interior design

concept, is to incorporate the flag, 'the Union Jack'

into your design.

British interiors at home work when elements areadded sparingly. The simplest way to get a touch of

cool Britannia, is to look for a few really great

scatter cushions.

BRITISH INTERIOR DESIGN

FLOORING

•Flooring comprises several layers

of wood stuck together under extremely high pressures. This

method of construction helps in

creating wooden flooring,

which boasts higher

strength and durability

compared to a wooden

floor of solid material.

WALLING

•You'll find no bare, painted walls in

English country homes. Wallpaper is used instead, and, again, should

use darker colors

• and floral patterns

DRAPES

•This design often uses the

British flag as its main

window drapes•Modern homes

may also use plain

sheers or florals.

CARPET• Uses plain rugs or flag

• printed depending on the

room’s furnitures and structures.

VINTAGE INTERIOR DESIGN

Vintage interior design is about 1940's glamor and

the end of World War II. This is a wonderfully, beautiful era to recreate in

your home. It is extremely nostalgic and looks to an

elegant time in history for influences.

After a long, suffering period of war worry and'make do', people very much created warm,

comforting homes. The forties and early fifties has a

distinct mix and match look.
