Developed in 1970’s by Australians Mollison & Holmgren, a design system for environmentally friendly food production

Permaculture is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive systems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of the landscape with people providing their food, energy, shelter and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. Graham Bell, The Permaculture Way

Permaculture is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature; of protracted & thoughtful observation rather than protracted & thoughtless action; of looking at systems in all their functions rather than asking only one yield of them & of allowing systems to demonstrate their own evolutions. Bill Mollison

The focus of Permaculture design is on the relationship between all the individual elements and their placement in the landscape, to form stable, productive communities that replicate the synergy and efficiency of natural ecosystems, rather than the individual elements themselves. http://deepgreenpermaculture.com/

Earth care

• Work with nature• Oppose destruction and damage• Consider choices we make• Aim for minimal environmental impact• Design healthy systems to meet out needs

Page 6: Permaculture permanent agriculture permanent culture

People Care

• Look after ourselves & others• Working together• Assist those who still don’t have access to

food and clean water• Develop environmentally friendly lifestyles• Design sustainable systems

• Resources are limited and only by curbing our consumption and population will there be enough for all now & in future

• We live off grid with compost loo. We run an organic veg. box scheme and use bio-dynamic preparations and principles. We have about half an acre of garden, acre of orchard and 6 acres of pasture. we have 2 Dexter cows, a calf, three sheep and ducks and hens, and a sense of humour (hope we don't sound too hard core!) Accommodation in Yurt. Have little wind-generator to put up, saving up for PV, turf-roofed veg. store under construction.
