East Northants Resource Management Facility

Our East Northants Resource Management Facility (ENRMF), located near Peterborough, holds the most comprehensive RSR EPR permit in the United Kingdom for final disposal of VLLW, LLW and NORM waste.

Key features of ENRMF include:• Permitted for the secure disposal

of radioactive wastes that are hazardous, non-hazardous as well as asbestos contaminated

• Each landfill cell is suitable for safe and final burial of VLLW, LLW and NORM with an average specific activity of up to 200Bq/g and a maximum package activity of 1000 Bq/g

• Ability to handle a variety of UN approved packages as well as large and unusual items

• Planning permission currently secured until 2026 with an associated landfill capacity in excess of 1 million cubic metres

• Local rail facilities for receiving VLLW, LLW and NORM

Specialist Facilities for the Oil & Gas Industry

Port Clarence, Lerwick and Dundee

• Treatment of NORM contaminated components and wastes specific to oil & gas production

• Our Port Clarence, Lerwick and Dundee sites hold RSA93 Authorisations for storage, descaling, conditioning and repackaging of NORM Waste

• Typical waste types include oil and heavy metal bearing sludge, sands, waxes, hazardous and non-hazardous NORM scales and contaminated plant and equipment

Sort & Segregation of LLW

Port Clarence Augean can offer Sort and Segregation services at our permitted Port Clarence Facility for LLW and NORM. Waste can be consigned to Augean in any UN approved package including HHISO, FHISO and various sizes of drums and soft-sided packages. Packages can include mixed consignments of waste destined for different final disposal and treatment options.

Augean’s process of Sort and Segregation will ensure that all waste types are consigned to the most appropriate waste route following BAT Assessments and the Waste Hierarchy. Waste will be assayed prior to onward consignment to a suitable treatment/disposal site.

Waste types can include:

• VLLW, NORM and LA-LLW for disposal at one of Augean’s permitted sites

Integrated Service helps solve 5 year problem with radioactive waste

Five years of difficulties for a company dealing with its Low Level Radioactive Waste were solved by a comprehensive project management plan devised and implemented by Augean Radioactive Waste Services (RWS).

The integrated service, delivered through Augean’s RWS team in partnership with the customer and third party specialists, included the development and implementation of a sampling and analysis plan, characterising the waste both chemically and radiologically, to fully understand its radiological and hazardous properties. This was followed by an evaluation of results, assessment, identification and sourcing of waste treatment via third party service providers. This resulted in the consignment being sent for final disposal via secure burial at Augean’s ENRMF site.

The composition of waste was analysed at each stage from source through to treatment and final disposal, allowing for risk assessments, reporting and compliance testing to be carried out for pre-treated and processed waste.

Of particular benefit was the full radiological and chemical characterisation. This had not previously been carried out and was a key factor in developing a solution for an otherwise problematic waste.”
