Message from the President

Perry Clarke, President

Dear Fellow Employees, On February 1, 2016, the Securitas purchase of Diebold Electronic Security closed. This means that in Canada we now have an electronic security division called Securitas Electronic Security.

What does this mean for you? This means that we can provide all the Security needs your client may have from Security Officers to Mobile. Their needs for Systems – such as Cameras and Access Control Systems like the ones many of you use daily – can be provided. This is good news for Securitas, and I encourage you to spread the word that these services can now be provided to your clients. If you are presented with an opportunity please let your Branch Manager know, and again, I thank you for all of your hard work.

Someone You Should Know Lance Kelly, Area Vice President, Western Canada; John Wilson, Branch Manager Western Canada

Justin Nyee began his career with Securitas in 2010. He is currently a Supervisor at a Telus site in Calgary. Justin started as a part time guard and after one year he was promoted to a site Lead. He has been a Supervisor at the Telus site for three years. Justin was a refugee and came to Canada in 2003. He says that he is happy to be in Canada and is appreciative of the opportunities that being here has afforded him. What made you choose security as a career? I was looking for a job. I was in school for accounting and needed a part time job. Security seemed like an interesting choice. I like the customer service aspect of it and had an interest in getting into criminal justice. What would you say is a career highlight for you? A most proud moment? I was working as a part time guard and after one year I was recommended by the branch manager for a full time position. The client was really pleased with me and that made me really proud. I was working at the HP site and it was a very secure site. I followed my site post orders and stopped a manager and asked to see his ID badge. The next day the client called and said that I had very good customer service skills. It is always nice to be recognized for doing good work. What do you find most fulfilling about your job? I like dealing with the public. I enjoy meeting new people every day. Sometimes people can be having a bad day or a good day and I try to make it better and a cheerful experience.

How does Securitas allow you to improve yourself and your skills? I have been given the opportunity to work my way up to a supervisory position. I am grateful that people here have taken me under their wing and nurtured my career. I am proud and grateful to be a part of this team. What are your plans for the future? I am looking to move up within the organization. I will continue to apply for opportunities that come up. I also would like to keep my options open in the criminal justice field.

Recognition Payman Ghaffari – February 2016

Security Guard Payman Ghaffari joined Securitas in July of 2015 and is now currently employed full time at the Town of Richmond Hill Library Since he started, Payman has developed into a site leader who has built long-lasting relationships with the client, his coworkers, and the Securitas family. Greg Patterson at the Library, says, “We are so pleased with Payman. We have found him to be attentive, hardworking, and reliable, and I hear nothing but good things from staff regarding his performance. In particular, I would like to commend him for his work with the high school students, particularly in the last few days with their exam period. It is due to his efforts that we have had perhaps the best behavior from this very challenging group in my time as a manager

at the Library. When incidents have occurred, he has stepped up and dealt with them in an effective manner”. By applying our fundamental values of Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness, Payman plays a key role within Securitas Canada. We really do believe People Make the Difference!

Most Valuable Employee for March 2016 Gary Vickers

Dear Mr. Vickers:

Re: Commendation – Gary Vickers The purpose of this letter is to formally and publicly commend you for the excellent service and response you had provided when a confused and verbally unresponsive man approached the AO Smith guardhouse on December 8, 2015. The level of professionalism and helpfulness that you extended was far beyond our expectations.

What particularly impressed us about the level of service provided was that there was no hesitation in helping the man that had strangely approached the guardhouse. It appears that it was simply your extraordinary commitment to excellence in customer service and support that motivated you to attend to the distressed man.

Securitas Cambridge Branch and Mike Harmer would like to commend you on the professional way in which you handled this unexpected and urgent situation. We believe you deserve to be congratulated and rewarded for providing customer service and support well beyond the expectations of our company. Therefore, you have been selected as the Most Valuable Employee for March 2016 for the Securitas Cambridge Branch! Thank you for your helpfulness, care and attention to the passerby in medical stress!

Very sincerely,

Securitas Canada Ltd

Highlight on Employees

The Employee Anniversary Recognition Program

Securitas Canada’s Employee Anniversary Recognition Program is designed to formally recognize employees on key anniversary dates. Employee recognition, be it for number of

years of service or for other reasons, is a crucial component of employee motivation. Taking the time to recognize an employee goes a long way towards strengthening both employee

and client relationships. Our clients appreciate the fact that Securitas understands and demonstrates that people make the difference!

The Employee Anniversary Recognition Program is to be administered locally by each Area and should include an Employee anniversary recognition pin (available for one, three and five-

year anniversaries and every five years after that), an employee award certificate and a congratulations letter to the employee. This information is all available on the Knowledge

Library.

The Securitas Hotline John Coletti, Vice President Human Resources

The Securitas Hotline is a secure and confidential way for employees to report ethics, safety, and other workplace concerns. You can place a call to The Securitas Hotline at 1-866-528-6556 or file a report online at www.securitashotline.ca 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember, many Securitas employees work at client facilities and are expected to observe and report certain types of situations as part of their job. The Securitas Hotline is not a substitute for everyday reporting, but should be used to report only those conditions or situations that you were unable to resolve through local branch management. What issues should I first take to my branch management? Working through your chain of command is key. Questions pertaining to uniforms, paycheques, or clarification regarding Company policy should first be addressed with your Branch Manager. However, if you are uncomfortable with approaching local management or did not receive a satisfactory response from them, The Securitas Hotline is an appropriate option. What types of concerns should I report to The Securitas Hotline? • Harassment • Discrimination • Alcohol or drug use • Workplace violence • Policy violations • Pay issues • Health and safety issues • Theft, fraud, or damage to company

property • Ethics violations or any illegal activity • Unfair treatment of any kind

These concerns may arise from observing the following types of inappropriate conduct: • An employee exhibiting signs of

violent behaviour. • Someone selling drugs at work. • An employee risking an accident

because of drugs or alcohol use. • A fellow employee taking Company

or client property such as cash, supplies, inventory or equipment.

• Someone vandalizing Company or client property or equipment.

• Yourself or someone else being treated unfairly or unprofessionally because of sex, race, national origin, age, disability, religion or other protected grounds

• A co-worker making a false injury claim.

What happens when I make a report? You can either call in a report or submit one online. When you call, a Securitas Hotline communications specialist will answer your call and ask you a series of questions to understand the nature of your call. It is important that you provide information such as the name and location of your branch office and any other pertinent information that will assist the company in researching and resolving your concern. The communications specialists will take your information and prepare a written report that will be forwarded to Securitas management. When you make a report online, you are asked to respond to a series of questions as well. A report is also generated and forwarded to Securitas management. After the report is reviewed, it will be assigned appropriately to initiate an inquiry.

Will I have to give you my name? No, you do not have to give your name if you do not wish to. The information in your report will always be confidential. However, in some cases, management may need more information in order to address your concerns, or you might be encouraged to meet with a management representative if you were personally affected by the situation being reported. But it will always be your decision whether to identify yourself. What if I don’t have all the facts? Securitas wants you to report all concerns in good faith. We will look into the information you provide, attempt to verify it and take appropriate action. If additional information is needed, someone will contact you. How do I check the status of my report to The Securitas Hotline? After you submit your report, you will enter a custom password and be assigned a unique report key. This information is exclusive to your report and is unavailable to Securitas in order to protect your confidentiality if you chose to remain anonymous. You can use your password and report key to contact The Securitas Hotline either by phone or web to obtain a response or provide additional information. Benefits Dispensing Fees and You

Have you ever wondered, when filling a prescription, what you really were paying for? Drugs constitute the largest component of healthcare cost, and to look at this component would be a measure of good cost management. There are two parts to a prescription medication: ingredient cost (consisting of the pharmaceutical manufacturer’s selling price, distribution cost, mark-ups by wholesalers & retailers) and dispensing fee. We as consumers do not have control over a manufacturer’s cost or the ultimate selling price but there is room to maneuver with regard to Dispensing Fees.

So, what is a Dispensing Fee? The dispensing fee is the charge by the pharmacist on top of the medicine cost to cover professional services rendered while dispensing a drug. Providing information on the proper use of the drug and any possible side effects, count as a professional service of a pharmacist. Usually, it is a uniform fee applied to all prescriptions; however, where compound mixtures are involved, pharmacists may charge more per minute of preparation. In some provinces, pharmacies are required to post their dispensing fees at a visible place where consumers can see them before placing an order. Surveys show that it can be as low as $4.99 and as high as $11.99.

How Can You Help? Next time you go to the pharmacy to fill a prescription, take the time and ask your pharmacist about the Dispensing Fee charge. You will be surprised how it differs from one to the other as dispensing fees vary by pharmacy and geographical location. Shop around. Savings in dispensing fees help lower utilization cost translating to less expensive premiums.

If you pair regular exercise with a well-balanced diet, you'll notice immediate changes in mood and energy levels. More importantly, consistently eating well and exercising will improve your health and extend your lifespan. The guidelines are relatively simple: engage in at least 150 minutes of aerobic exercise and two full-body strength training sessions each week and eat a nutritionally diverse diet, low in fat and sodium, but high in fiber. Ask your health care provider to help you devise a more detailed diet and fitness plan.

Energy

If you eat healthy, small snacks and meals throughout the day, you'll keep your blood sugar from crashing and feel more energetic. If you hit the gym for 30 minutes each day, you'll have the added benefit of a neurotransmitter called serotonin, which is a natural mood booster.

Weight Control

Losing weight and keeping it off takes a combination of eating fewer calories and burning more energy. Eat nutrient-dense, low-calorie foods such as fruits, vegetables and lean meats and other proteins that will fill you up. Integrate physical activity into your everyday routine in addition to scheduled exercise. For instance, take the stairs at work or park at the far end of the lot.

Health

Regular exercise and good nutrition may prevent a myriad of conditions including heart disease, hypertension, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis and depression. Consult your physician to make sure your diet and exercise plans are compatible with your medications and health conditions.

Self-Esteem

There is nothing like running farther or improving your physique to boost your self-esteem. Take time to enjoy your new healthy lifestyle. Keep fitness fun and interesting by trying something new -- go for a hike, take a martial arts course or register for a 5K. A lot of these activities can incorporate time with family members to make it more enjoyable for all while keeping it fun and simple.

Sleep

If you exercise vigorously for 30 minutes a day, you may find you sleep much more soundly at night. A good night's rest will improve your mental acuity and energy levels the next day, which in turn, increases your mood at work and productivity levels.

Spring Season Safety Reminders

With warmer weather and longer days approaching, people in are emerging from their winter cocoons to focus on long-neglected projects like spring cleaning, home repairs, and yard work. Many are also lacing up their shoes for their first outdoor walk or jog of the season. These activities can be extremely beneficial, but they also involve a variety of health and safety hazards that can be avoided with proper precautions. To help ensure everyone stays safe, we would like to offer the following tips. CLEANING FOR SAFETY

• Household and pool chemicals, paints, and poisons should be properly marked and stored under lock and key, away from children’s reach. Dispose of any that are leaking or expired,, properly at your local hazard waste site.

• When cleaning up hazardous chemicals wear rubber gloves and follow the safety direction on the packaging. Never mix chemicals in the same container. • Make sure gasoline and cleaning fluids are well marked and stored in a cool, dry place away from the house and out of the reach of children and pets. Use only approved containers for gasoline storage.

• Never use gasoline to clean skin, clothes, auto parts, or floors.

• Cleanup work areas. Put dangerous tools, adhesives, matches, or other work items away from children’s reach.

• Check your barbecue for leaks and cracks, and store any propane tanks away from your house and garage.

• Remove all fire hazards, including stacks of rags, newspapers, and magazines. Pay special attention to the spaces around your furnace, hot water tank, fireplace, space heaters, and dryer, as well as under the stairs.

OUTDOOR SAFETY Itching to get the yard into shape for the summer? Here are ways to help ensure your spring spruce-up is accident-free.: • Limber up. Yard chores may seem easy,

but they involve muscles you recently may have not used in a while.

• Always wear protective clothing when handling pesticides and fertilizers.

• When pruning trees, do not let ladders or trimmers contact overhead wires.

• Before you do any “hands on” weed removal, make sure you know how to identify poison ivy, sumac, oak and similar toxic plants. Learn how to treat the rashes they cause to reduce the irritation.

Ready for outdoor exercise and adventure? Here are a few pointers.:

• It may look appealing, but don’t wander on frozen rivers and lakes in the spring. The ice is beginning to thaw, and you never know just how thin the ice really is.

• Spring’s extra rain and thawing snow can cause normally safe rivers, streams, and creeks to turn treacherous. Even standing on banks can be risky as they can be undercut by rushing water and give in under your weight.

• Springtime is also severe weather time. If the skies look threatening, check to see if a storm watch or warning has been issued before you initiate outdoor activities. If you’re already outside and thunderstorms threaten, go immediately into a building or enclosed vehicle. For tornadoes, go to the nearest safe structure, or the basement or interior first-floor room of your home. If there’s no time to follow these precautions, take cover in a ditch or depression in the ground.

LADDER SAFETY Ready to do some home repairs? On average, about 145,000 people visit the emergency room each year, because of ladder accidents. Here are a few safety tips: • Read the manufacturer’s instructions that

come with your ladder. They contain guidelines for weight and height limits as well as for the proper use.

• Inspect the ladder before using it to make sure there are no loose or broken rungs.

• Make sure the ladder is the right height for the job. Many accidents happen when people overextend their reach.

• Never stand on a ladder’s bucket shelf. • Make sure the ladder is completely open

and that all of it’s feet are planted on a firm, level surface. Extension ladders should not be placed at an angle that is too extreme. Avoid using a metal ladder near electrical sources.

• Face the ladder when climbing down and make sure your weight is centered between the two sides.

These are just a few of the safety precaution to consider. “It’s also a great time to replace your smoke detector batteries, make sure your fire extinguishers are placed in proper locations around your home and work locations. Also ensure you have a working flashlight and battery-powered radio for spring storms. By taking the right precautions when warmer weather comes, you and those around you can enjoy a safer spring.”

HEALTH & SAFETY Securitas Canada Hazard Assessment Program

Jame Evans, National Quality / Health and Safety Director

What are a worker’s responsibilities? A worker must protect everyone affected by the work he or she does, by working safely, using designated equipment and clothing. A worker must promptly report health and safety violations or hazards in the workplace to his or her employer or supervisor. What are a supervisor’s responsibilities? A supervisor must ensure the safety of everyone working under him or her, and be familiar with the occupational health and safety requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and how the requirements apply in the workplace. A supervisor must ensure that all workers under him or her are aware of all reasonably foreseeable hazards in the workplace, and that they comply with Securitas Canada Health & Safety Policies, Procedures and Post Orders. Hazard Assessments identify both known and predictable sources of accident/injury on a worksite. WHO? Branch Managers, with the cooperation of a designated site Guard are to complete Hazard Assessments on-site together, to ensure effective controls are implemented.

Page 12: Perry Clarke, President - Securitas · Perry Clarke, President. Dear Fellow Employees, On February 1, 2016, the Securitas purchase of Diebold Electronic Security closed. This means

WHEN? A Hazard Assessment must be completed as part of the start-up process for all new worksites. Should Worksite conditions or Post Order duties change, the Hazard Assessment process must be repeated. At a minimum, new Hazard Assessment must be conducted annually. WHY? To identify hazards and implement Corrective actions for the protection of our workers, as mandated by all Provincial & Federal Occupational Health & Safety Acts.

Page 13: Perry Clarke, President - Securitas · Perry Clarke, President. Dear Fellow Employees, On February 1, 2016, the Securitas purchase of Diebold Electronic Security closed. This means

Some Tips: • By identifying areas of potential

concern, identifying hazards should become more effective and efficient.

• Use the list and check all of the applicable boxes.

• Once you have identified all the applicable, potential areas to the workplace, move to the next stage and identify the hazards.

Task Steps Some tasks have more than one hazardous component. Hazards Look at each job task and identify the hazards associated with each stage. Risk Level Severity of injury and probability. Control What have we already done, or need to do to eliminate or control the identified hazard?

Page 14: Perry Clarke, President - Securitas · Perry Clarke, President. Dear Fellow Employees, On February 1, 2016, the Securitas purchase of Diebold Electronic Security closed. This means

(Controls are the steps, processes and training we take to reduce the risk of injury)

Criteria for Effective Controls

- Eliminate the danger to the worker - Allow workers to work without undue discomfort - Protect all workers likely to be exposed - Does not create a new hazard - Is Sustainable and will provide the same level of protection for all new workers

Controls are applied in one of three places: AT THE SOURCE - Eliminate the hazard, Substitute, or Isolate ALONG THE PATH - Housekeeping, Guardrails, Barriers, Lighting AT THE WORKER - Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Administrative controls

Use the Hierarchy of Controls to identify how to create and implement a control. It is important to remember that Administrative and Personal Protective Equipment (although necessary at times) are the Least Effective, as they require extensive monitoring and supervision to ensure compliance. Providing instruction must always be followed up with acknowledgment. Equipment must always be followed up with instruction and supervision to ensure issued PPE is worn both consistently and effectively.

Before the Hazard Assessment can be considered complete, answer this list of questions. If you can answer YES to all, continue to the signature section at the

bottom. If you have answered NO to any questions, consult your Supervisor and see why, and what can be done to address the concern associated with the question.

Securitas Canada provides all their employees with Step-Back cards which are designed for use prior to the start of each shift. Reviewing the card and assessing the workplace at the start of each shift will ensure that potential hazards are being identified and addressed following the Securitas Canada Hazard Assessment Program as our commitment to ensuring the Health & Safety of all our workers.

Community Involvement James Evans, National Quality / Health and Safety Director

With a successful year of fundraising behind us as 2015 recently came to a close, we are very pleased to announce that our Jeans Day Program for Make-A-Wish raised $5,170.37, while our online payroll donation program for Make-A-Wish continued to grow in employee participation which helped us raise an additional $9,237.98. Combined with a share of funds raised through the Securitas Canada Cure for Cancer Ball Hockey event which raised $15, 639.36 last July, we are very pleased and proud to have made two children’s wishes come true through Make-A-Wish for 2015. As we are now through the first three months of 2016, we are pleased to announce that our fundraising for both the Canadian Cancer Society and the Make-A-Wish Program will continue for 2016. Our Jeans Day Program and online employee payroll donation program will be our focus fundraising drives for the Make-A-Wish Program while the annual Securitas Canada Cure for Cancer event will drive our Canadian Cancer Society fundraising. We are very excited to announce that The Unisync Group will again be our Platinum Sponsor for our Cure for Cancer event which is now entering its 12th year raising funds and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society. For the past 11 years the event has been built around ball hockey but this year we are changing things up in hopes of growing continued interest and sponsorship as the event will be trading in the nets and hockey sticks for gloves and bats as this year’s event will be a Slopitch event. With a target date of mid to late July, Securitas Canada will be working with The Unisync Group and a team of volunteers to give participants a chance to take to the diamond for a day of fun under the sun playing with family and friends to honour loved ones touched by cancer. As the organizing committee begins putting the pieces to this year’s event together, we will be providing updates on our event Facebook Page and through internal communications. Please keep watch for announced updates or you can email James Evans for more information at [email protected]

Risk-Based Thinking Through the many changes within the ISO 9001:2015 Standard, we see that one of the biggest revisions is that of "risk-based thinking." It is repeated throughout the new Standard and it now needs to be documented as part of our Securitas Canada ISO compliance process. What is risk? ISO 9000, the vocabulary standard that defines some of the terms used in ISO 9001 and related standards, defines risk as “the effect of uncertainty”. Securitas Canada knows the importance of looking ahead at the changes that will come with the new “risk-based thinking” that now makes up a great deal of content within the revised Standard and what this also means for the Security industry, our suppliers and even our competitors. Risks are those areas of concern we identify based on possible changes that might affect our company and our business. There are several areas where "risk-based thinking" needs to be applied in the ISO 9001:2015 Standard:

• When determining relevant issues from the context of the organization • When determining requirements of interested parties • When planning changes to the Quality Management System • When determining organizational knowledge to maintain • When determining necessary documented information • When dealing with changes to products and services • During design and development • When dealing with changes for production or service provision • When bringing on a new external provider • When monitoring performance of external providers • When determining controls of production and service provision • When determining the extent of post-delivery activities • When evaluating the results of monitoring and measuring • When planning internal audits • During management review • As part of corrective action

As we begin to identify risks and opportunities within our business and within our industry as outlined through the new “risk-based thinking” requirements of the Standard, we look forward to the upcoming revisions to our Quality Management System as these will strengthen our Quality Program and allow us to maintain our ISO 9001-2015 Certification.
