Welcome back Falcon Families! I want to start by saying thank you. Thank you for believing in us, being patient with us, and trusting in us as we move forward under these extreme conditions created by this epic event. The guidelines from local, state and federal agencies have helped frame our reopening plans for Perry Township Schools. Our top priority is the health and safety of everyone in our learning community promoting our inclusive spirit and appreciation for the diversity of our students we serve. We are confident that we are addressing the many health concerns that are present with this virus. Our goal is to continue to do our very best to maintain a safe learning environment for all our students, faculty and staff at PMHS. Our safety plans are fluid to ensure refinement, if necessary, as we navigate the uncertainty of the moment, the day and even a given week. This plan includes: (1) Changes to our school environment, (2) Enhanced cleaning protocols, (3) Safety measures dealing with COVID-19, (4) Bell Schedule -Traditional and Virtual and, (5) Hallway traffic patterns. It will take some time to acclimate to these COVID measures we are taking which will allow our students to continue to excel in their school life. I anxiously wait for PMHS to reopen and look forward to yet another outstanding school year. Your Partner in Education, Kert F. PERRY MERIDIAN HIGH SCHOOLSTUDENTS WITH COVID SYMPTOMS AND NOT TESTEDPer the Marion County Public Health Department, students with new onset symptoms of COVID must be excluded from school and stay home for 10 days from when symptoms first appeared. They also must be fever-free without medication for 3 days and have improved symptoms for 3 days before returning to school. This means any student who newly develops any ONE of the following symptoms will be sent home, unless it is determined to be due to another ailment or the student’s baseline:

● Fever of 100 degrees F or greater● Cough● Shortness of breath / difficulty breathing● Fatigue● Sore throat● Chills● Muscle or body aches● Headache● New loss of taste/smell● Diarrhea● Nausea or vomiting● Nasal congestion / Runny nose

If any of these symptoms is a part of another ailment (i.e., seasonal allergies), we need a note from a medical provider for the student to return to school before 10 days has elapsed. If we have a doctor’s note or signed medical plan on file that says one of the above symptoms is typical for the student due to another health condition, we can allow the student to remain at school unless additional symptoms develop. If the student goes to the doctor and receives an alternative diagnosis (i.e., strep throat), the student can return to school per our guidelines for non-COVID diagnosis:

1. Fever/chills/generalized body aches – May return when temperature is below 100.0 F for 72 hours without fever reducing medication

2. Undiagnosed rash – May return once determined non-contagious by a physician. Physician guidelines for return must be followed

3. Sore throat/throat infection – May return after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment if seen by a physician and note to return has been given.

4. Eye discharge and redness – May return after evaluation by physician with return to school note and 24 hours of antibiotic treatment if needed.

5. Other illness or absence from school related to health care concern – May return with written doctor release to return to school.
