Awards Day Program Burkhart will recognize students in a special Awards Day Program on the last day of school, Thursday, May 23. Parents are invited to share in this special time, if they believe their child will receive recognition. Program times are:

Grade 3 – 9:25 a.m. Grades 4 and 5 – 10:15 a.m. Grades 1 and 2 – 1:30 p.m.

Awards will be presented to students who have qualified for the following awards:

Good Attendance–Having missed 3 days or less during the entire school year and no more than 6 times tardy to school and/or left early from school. Excellent Attendance–Having attended school every day, these students may have left early or arrived late, not having felt well or due to a doctor or dentist appointment. These students have attended school for at least a part of all 180 days and no more than 4 times tardy to school and/or leaving early from school. Perfect Attendance – Having never been tardy, and never left early due to illness or appointment. These students have attended every day for the entire day. Honor Roll – This award is given to students in grades 4 and 5 who made the Honor Roll by earning all A and B grades in all subjects for all four grading periods. Citizenship – This award is given to students who received an “A” grade in Citizenship for all four grading periods. Effort Award – “Outstanding” or “Good” Effort in all subjects, all year, but having no more than six “Good” Effort ratings for the four grading periods. Principal’s Award—Awarded to Fifth Grade students who earn these four honors: Attendance Award, Honor Roll Award, Citizenship Award, and Effort Award. Reading Giants – Students receive this award if they have met their at-home reading minutes AND turned in a book report every month from November through April. EL Graduate – English Learner students who scored 5 or higher on their English proficiency test will receive this award. Physical Education Award (Grades 4 and 5)–Students recognized as the top students in P. E. class will receive this award. Young Hoosier Book Award (Grades 4 and 5)-Students who read 20 or more Young Hoosier Books this school year will receive this award. President’s Education Awards On Friday, May 10, twenty-eight Burkhart fifth grade students received the President’s Education Award for Excellence. The students were honored at a special breakfast attended by their families and the Burkhart staff. Each student received a special certificate and a letter signed by President Trump. Dress Code for Last Week of School On Tuesday, May 21, all students will enjoy Field Day activities. Students may be out of dress code on this date. All shirts must have sleeves. All bottoms must be at knee-length or longer. Check with your child to see what team color s/he is to wear. If your child doesn't have clothing this color, there is no need to purchase something special for this one day. On Thursday, May 23, all students in grades 1 - 4 should come to school in regular dress code clothing. All 5th grade choir members are asked to wear their choir t-shirt and khaki bottoms. All 5th graders are asked to wear their 5th grade t-shirt and dress code bottoms.

School Supply Sale The Burkhart PTA is sponsoring a school supply sale through Schoolkidz, a Staples company. This is an easy, convenient and affordable way to get almost everything on the supply list! Order forms were sent home with students last week. All paper order forms and money are due by Monday, May 20, payable with cash or checks written to Burkhart PTA. You may also order online with a credit card through Friday, May 24, at www.shopttkits.com. Use account number 14541. Supplies will be delivered directly to your child’s classroom by the first day of school in July. Backpacks and other accessories are only available online and are optional.

50 Book Challenge These fourth and fifth grade students conquered the Burkhart 50 Book Challenge! Congratulations to: Van Thang, Bawi Sung, Grady Cabell, Ja Seng Chan, and Ester Mawi! They read all twenty of the current intermediate-level Young Hoosier Books and at least thirty additional Young Hoosier Books or Newbery Award books. They were treated to a pizza party to celebrate their accomplishment.

Yearbooks for Sale We have a few extra yearbooks for sale, available while supplies last. The cost is $15.00. You may pay with cash or check made payable to Burkhart School.

From the Clinic If your child has medication in the clinic, either prescription or over-the-counter, it must be picked up by a parent by dismissal on the last day of school, Thursday, May 23. No medication will be sent home with a student or stored in the clinic over summer break. Any medication left in the clinic will be destroyed according to Community Health Network and Perry Township policies. Thank you for your cooperation.

New Kindergarten Eligibility Dates On Monday, April 29, 2019, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a bill that changes the eligibility cutoff date for students entering kindergarten in the 2019-2020 school year. If your child will turn 5 years old on or before September 1, 2019, you are eligible to apply for kindergarten. Previously, a child was eligible for kindergarten in the fall of 2019 if they turned 5 years old on or before August 1, 2019. Registration is now open! Final Report Cards and Planning for Next Year The final report card of the school year will be mailed to all students’ homes in early June. Please be sure we have your correct address on file. Also, if you are planning to move this summer, please call the Burkhart office with your new address. Please let us know if your child will NOT be returning to Burkhart or attending Perry Meridian 6th Grade Academy, so we may prepare their records for their new school. This will assist us in planning for the next school year. Thanks for your help.

Classroom Placement Requests We take the process of constructing classroom placements for the following school year seriously. We are charged to keep classrooms balanced by gender, academic aptitude, and race. Our staff works diligently to make appropriate placements for the boys and girls who attend our school. Because we work to keep classrooms balanced, it has been Burkhart’s policy for many years to not accept parent requests for a child to be placed in a specific teacher’s classroom for the following year.

Mark Your Calendar for 2019-2020 Back-to-School Night On Monday, July 22, Burkhart will host Back-to-School Night from 4:30–6:30 p.m. Boys and girls may come with their parents to school during this time to meet their teacher, see their classroom, and bring their supplies and items for the classroom. We’ll help families learn bus route information, sign up for assistance with lunch and textbook fees, and have medical forms available should your child need medication

while at school.

Box Tops for Education Calling all Box Tops! If you have been collecting Box Tops, please send them in before the last day of school. They are always appreciated and help us reach our goal. Every 50 Box Tops=$5 donated to our PTA by the Box Tops Program. Remember to keep collecting them over the summer. Perry Meridian Girls Basketball Camp Perry Meridian Girls Basketball Team will once again host their annual Elementary / Middle School Camp for all girls who are incoming Kindergarten through 8th grade. The camp is Tuesday, May 28-Friday, May 31, 2109, from 10:00 a.m. – noon, at Perry Meridian Middle School. The cost is $40.00. You can register the morning of the camp. End-of-Year Negative Food Service Balance Information At the end of the school year, any negative food service balances of more than $50.00 will be sent to a professional collection agency. The negative balance stays with the student's account until graduation or upon withdrawal. Graduating seniors must pay all charges in full. Failure to do so may result in not being allowed to participate in the graduation ceremonies.

Payments may also be made online through e-Funds, but please note that no payments will be accepted through e-Funds from Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 28 due to a system update. Great Fun at the SPARK Walk-N-Roll Burkhart students and staff “walked and rolled” to raise money for SPARK-sponsored cultural arts programs and field trips. Over $8,000 was pledged by students, staff and local businesses! Congratulations to Tatum Cuellar (grade 2), who collected the most in pledges! Grade level winners were Jillian Halper (grade 1), Amelia Hartman (grade 3), Krislyn Wooten (grade 4), and Auria Knight (grade 5). Prize drawing winners were: Mal Sang, Tluang Thang, Samuel Lian, Ngun Par, Toe Wai Ygan, and Keegan Bringle. Día De Premios Burkhart reconocerá a ciertos estudiantes durante el Día De Premios, el último día de clases, el jueves 23 de mayo. Si su hijo/a califica para un premio, está invitado a compartir este día especial. El horario para ese día es lo siguiente:

3er grado – 9:25 a.m. 4º y 5º grado – 10:15 a.m. 1er y 2º grado – 1:30 p.m.

Los premios son para los estudiantes que califiquen para lo siguiente:

Buena Asistencia Escolar–Faltaron 3 días o menos durante todo el año escolar y no llegaron tarde más de 6 veces. Excelente Asistencia Escolar–Vinieron a clase todos los días, tal vez se fueron temprano por razón médica, o han asistido por la mayor parte de los 180 días escolares, y no han llegado tarde más de 4 veces. Perfecta Asistencia Escolar – Nunca faltaron a clase y no se fueron temprano ni han llegado tarde. Honor Roll – Este premio es para estudiantes de 4º y 5º que han obtenido solo calificaciones de A y B en todas las materias por todo el año escolar. Ciudadanía – Este premio es para los estudiantes que recibieron una “A” en comportamiento por todo el año. Esfuerzo – “Buen” o “Excelente” esfuerzo en toda materia todo el ano, pero no tener más de 6 de “buen” esfuerzo todo el año. Premio De La Directora—Para estudiantes de 5º que calificaron para estos premios: Asistencia Escolar, Honor Roll Award, Ciudadanía, y Esfuerzo. Gigantes De Lectura/Reading Giants – Estudiantes que cumplieron su meta de lectura y entregaron sus reportes de libro cada mes desde noviembre hasta abril. Graduado de EL – Este premio es para los estudiantes que están aprendiendo inglés que sacaron un 5 o más en su examen de Dominio Del Inglés. Educación Física (4º y 5º grado)–Este premio es para estudiantes que han demostrado desempeño en la clase de Educación Física. Young Hoosier Book Award (4o y 5o grado)-Este premio es para los estudiantes que leyeron 20 o más libros de Young Hoosier Arte (5º grado) Coro Participantes del Spelling Bee Equipo de Ortografía Spell Bowl Asistentes de la oficina y biblioteca

Premios De Educación Presidenciales El viernes, 10 de mayo, 28 estudiantes de 5o grado de Burkhart recibieron el Premio De Excelencia Presidencial. Los estudiantes fueron reconocidos durante un almuerzo especial con familiares y facultad de Burkhart. Cada estudiante recibió un certificado firmado por el Presidente Trump. Código De Vestimenta Para La Última Semana De Clases El martes, 21 de mayo, todos los estudiantes disfrutaran de un día de actividades afuera. Pueden vestir fuera de uniforme este día. Las camisetas deben tener mangas. Los chores deben llegar a la rodilla o debajo. Pregúntele a su hijo/a que color va a usar su equipo. Si no tiene ropa de este color, no es necesario comprar nada para este día. El jueves, 23 de mayo, todos los estudiantes deben venir con uniforme regular. Todos los miembros del coro deben vestir con sus camisas y pantalón o falda color khaki. Todos los estudiantes de 5o pueden usar su camisa de 5o grado con pantalón/chor/falda de uniforme.

Venta De Útiles Escolares El PTA de Burkhart, estará patrocinando una venta de útiles, por parte de Schoolkidz, una compañía de Staples. Mandaremos a casa la hoja para hacer pedidos la primera semana de mayo. Todos los pedidos junto con el dinero deben ser entregados no más tardar el lunes, 20 de mayo, por cheque o en efectivo. Haga su cheque a nombre de: Burkhart PTA. También puede ordenar electrónicamente antes del 23 de mayo en: www.shopttkits.com. Use el número de cuenta 14541. Los útiles serán enviados al salón de su hijo/a la primera semana de julio, cuando regresen a clases. Mochilas y otros accesorios solo estarán disponibles electrónicamente y son opcionales.

Entregue Libros A La Biblioteca Todos los libros deben ser regresados a la biblioteca. Por favor revise en casa por cualquier libro que tenga que ser regresado a la biblioteca.

Reto 50 Libros ¡Los siguientes estudiantes cumplieron su meta del reto “50 Book Challenge!” Felicidades a: Van Thang, Bawi Sung, Grady Cabell, Ja Seng Chan, and Ester Mawi! Leyeron 20 libros de Young Hoosier Books y por lo menos 30 libros adicionales de Young Hoosier Books o Newbery Award. Fueron reconocidos con una fiesta con pizza.

Venta De Anuarios Tenemos algunos anuarios en venta por $15 hasta que se acaben. Puede pagar en efectivo o hacer un cheque a nombre de: Burkhart School.

De Parte De La Enfermería Si su hijo/a tiene medicamento en la enfermería, debe recogerlo antes de la hora de la salida el último día de clases, el 23 de mayo. Ningún medicamento será enviado a casa con su hijo/a ni lo guardaremos durante las vacaciones de verano. Cualquier medicamento que no sea recogido será descartado, de acuerdo con la póliza de Community Health Network y Perry Township. Gracias por su cooperación.

Nuevas Fechas De Elegibilidad Para El Kínder El lunes, 29 de abril, 2019 el Gobernador Eric Holcomb firmo una ley que cambia la fecha de entrada para estudiantes entrando al kínder para el año escolar 2019-20. Si su hijo/a cumple 5 años el día de/o antes del 1º de septiembre, 2019, es elegible para registrarse para kínder. Antes, si su hijo/a era elegible si cumplía 5 años el día de/o antes del 1º de agosto. ¡Ya se puede registrar! Para más información, visite perryschools.org o llame al 317-789-3700.

Ultimas Calificaciones La última nota con las calificaciones de su hijo/a serán enviadas por correo a principio de junio. Por favor asegúrese que tengamos su domicilio correcto. Si planea mudarse este verano, por favor llame a la oficina para darnos su domicilio Nuevo. Por favor díganos si su hijo/a ya no planea regresar a Burkhart o a la Academia de Perry Meridian para poder preparar su archivo. Esto nos ayudara a planear mejor para el siguiente año escolar.

Colocación De Salón El proceso de colocar a estudiantes en sus salones es algo que tomamos en serio. Tenemos la responsabilidad de balacear cada salón por raza, sexo, y aptitud académica. Nuestra facultad trabaja cuidadosamente para colocar a cada estudiante apropiadamente. Por la razón de que debemos mantener este balance, es la póliza de Burkhart de no aceptar solicitudes de parte de los padres.

Noche De Regreso A Clase 2019-2020 El lunes 22 de julio tendremos Noche De Regreso A Clase de 4:30–6:30 p.m. Los niños pueden venir con sus familias a la escuela y conocer a sus maestros y traer sus útiles. También le ayudaremos con información de camión, llenar solicitudes para la comida gratis y libros, y registración para

medicamentos si lo necesita.

Box Tops Para Educación Si ha estado colectando Box Tops, por favor entrégalas antes del último día de clases. Le agradecemos todo lo que pueda colectar y nos ayuda mucho. Cada 50 nos da $5 para apoyar al programa PTA. Recuerde de seguir colectando durante el verano. Campamento De Baloncesto Para Niñas El equipo de baloncesto de Perry Meridian está tomando registraciones para niñas de Kínder a 8º grado. El campamento es de martes, 28 de mayo-viernes 31 de mayo de 10:00 a.m. – 12PM, en la escuela Perry Meridian Middle School. El costo es $40.00. Puede registrarse el primer día de campamento. Balance Negativo De Comida A fin de año, cualquier balance de comida de $50 o más, será enviado a una agencia de colecciones. El balance negativo se queda en la cuenta del estudiante hasta su graduación o si se retira de la escuela antes, el ultimo día antes de retirarse. Los estudiantes de último año que planeen graduarse deben pagar su cuenta completa. Si no, resultara en no poder graduarse.

Puede hacer un pago en la oficina de la escuela o por el Departamento De Nutrición Para Niños comunicándose con Janet Nataren al 317-789-3738 o Teresa Stinnett al 317-789-3741. También puede hacer pagos electrónicamente por e-Funds, pero recuerde que no podrá usar e-Funds del lunes, 17 de junio hasta el viernes, 28 de junio porque no estará disponible el sitio web. Tampoco se aceptarán pagos en persona durante estos días del 17-28 de junio.

Diversión Durante SPARK Walk-N-Roll Los estudiantes de Burkhart y la facultad participaron en la caminata anual “Walk-N-Roll” para recaudar fondos para nuestro programa SPARK. ¡Recaudamos más de $8,000! ¡Felicidades a Tatum Cuellar (grade 2), quien colecto más donaciones! Los demás ganadores fueron: Jillian Halper (grade 1), Amelia Hartman (grade 3), Krislyn Wooten (grade 4), y Auria Knight (grade 5). Ganadores de la rifa: Mal Sang, Tluang Thang, Samuel Lian, Ngun Par, Toe Wai Ygan, y Keegan Bringle. Las clases del Sr. White, Sra. Mercer, y Sra.
