    COMMODORE’S REPORT Ray Porter

It is disappointing to find that some members help themselves to the ice in the ice machine.

This facility was put there for the convenience of members and not as a free service to those who don’t

want to pay. Please note the ice machine will be placed under surveillance and anyone found taking ice

without paying for it will have their details and evidence forwarded to the police. This is theft. These

people are not only stealing from the club they are stealing from fellow members and it disgusts me that

we have this element amongst our membership. Please ensure that you pay for your ice or this facility

will be removed from the club premises.

In relation to the replacement of the Club house roof, we are finalising the last of the boxes we have to

tick before we can proceed with the works. Once this is completed we will give all members the updated

    time frame for this project.

With summer fast approaching this is probably the best time with the demersal closures in place, to get

your boat ready for the summer season. As the weather improves and the ramps get busy, please follow

the directions for the ramps in your house rules or as instructed by our Bosun.

It’s good to see a couple of new faces on the Committee and we look forward to their input and

participation in Club matters. Welcome to Luke Sanders and Nick Small. Colin McKinley was not re-

elected at the AGM and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Colin for his involvement in the

Committee and as Busy Bee Coordinator and look forward to his continuing support in other Club

    matters.

    Regards

    FLARES FLARES FLARES --- DON’T DON’T DON’T EXPIREEXPIREEXPIRE

It has been brought to our attention that Department of Transport

(Marine) Officers will now be enforcing regulations requiring that

    vessels be equipped with

IN DATE FLARES. So before you head out on the water check that your flares and all

safety equipment is in date and well maintained.

Department of Transport has launched the “Don’t Expire”

campaign. Check out their website for more details.

Free “Don’t Expire” stickers are available from DoT offices or by

contacting the Marine Safety Hotline on 1300 863 308.

DoT is encouraging skippers to record on the sticker the expiry date

for each piece of equipment and position it on their vessel for easy

    reference.

Members due to renovations happening at your club we have had to cancel all

functions until early next year, due to the safety aspect. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The Committee did have a look at another venue, so we could hold the Children’s party, but un-

fortunately it was too small. Children I have sent a letter to Santa and he has replied saying he

understands and looks forward to seeing everyone next year. He did say, be good and keep

    helping mum and dad.

The Commodore has advised once all renovations are complete we will be holding a family fun

open day. So please read your magazine for updates.

Whilst renovations are happening the Social Committee won’t be idle, as we will be organizing

next year’s functions, so we can be ready once every thing is completed.

If any member has some ideas on other functions that may be suitable please let us know and

we can have a look at the idea.

The competition was held over to the weekend

of the 20th and 21st of October because there

was a strong wind warning issued the weekend

before. We had two boats weigh in for the Oc-

    tober Sports Fishing Competition weekend.

John Marston scored 99.6 Champion Angler

    points.

Richard Howell scored 36.7 Champion Angler

    points.

Rob Pombersbach scored 30.3 Champion An-

    gler points.

John and Richard caught a good feed of sand

whiting and a flounder, while Rob caught a big

    King George whiting.”

    Next Competition:

The November 2012 competition will be held on Saturday

    or Sunday 10th or 11th November 2012.

For those interested, the fishing hours are from Midnight on

Friday to 2 pm on Sunday. The competition will be judged

on a points score based on the fish species and the length of

    the fish taken or released.

At least one person from each participating boat needs to

attend the official weigh in at 2 pm on the Sunday of the

competition. Catch and release sheets need to be provided

to the Weigh Master or his representative at that time in

order for the scores to count in the competition.

    Next Fishing Group Meeting:

The next Fishing Group Meeting will be held on Monday

19th November at 7.30 pm at the club. There are no formal

application processes for club members – just show up on

    Mid-Week Group Lorna Clarke

Greetings All, This year is fast disappearing and next month we look forward to our Christmas “do”, though it’s a little bit early, on the 8th Nov. 2013 is simply around the corner!

This’n’That. With 22 members present it was ‘catch up’ time first, to be up with the news, then to socialise over lunch, enjoyed by all.

Delores welcomed every one and imparted such news as Hilda Charles has been in hospital, is now home, and to-day Robbie and Corry couldn’t make it to the lunch as they, were cheering her up with a visit, the only day that suited all three. but all were disappointed to miss out on our fun day.

Bill S. and Bob McK. were the only two joke tellers to-day, short ones, but cause for a laugh.

Believe this or not!. Barry Calder ‘s long awaited saga for getting his hip replacement was due to be done on Friday of this week, but has already been told that it has been cancelled AGAIN, for the third time, and will now be done on the 19th Nov. Wouldn’t bet on it myself!

Fred A. and David Sach have both had more health problems, so good wishes go to you both from the group, may you be restored to good health soon and you ‘re back with us.

At the recent AGM Bob McK. was appointed as 2nd Rear Commodore. Congratulations! May you enjoy your new responsibilities as you do your bit for C.P.B.A. In December he will be taking time off from these to attend the State Lawn Bowls Championships in Melbourne, I think it is. If I have the wrong place, my apologies, but do well wherever it is.

Brian and Delores are off travelling - again! This time from the 15th to 27th October, to first attend a wedding in Thailand and then lap up the luxury of time in Phuket. Some fun.

Message: On behalf of our Mid Week Group. we would like to welcome you, Con Albu, and hope you enjoy our group. You did very well with your bowls, good on you, from Delores.

    Games Reports.

Cards Phase 10. Joan, Shirley and Lorna had their usual battle to be the winner of our games and luck was with us all, we all had a win. How lucky can we be? Not good for the finances for our group, no money from us!

Euchre. Now, what is news from this mob? Much the same as usual, the battle was between Bill S. and Ivan A who, because of their superior skill, (and good luck with their cards)defeated the gallant triers of Doug M and Fred S. two games to nil. Congratulation winners!

Bowls. A comprehensive report from no less than two of the members, so an interesting report from this prestigious group.

1st Game. Delores is playing up already, Brian is stripping (tut! tut!). Con (a new member) enjoyed his first time as a bowler.

I have taken over from our scribe to give a little information as I know she will not add this in. Our new member, Col, who has never played bowls before was due to have his turn. Marie approached him as his coach and told him he was holding his ball in his wrong hand (?) Col said ”sorry, I haven't done this before (?)”Marie was kind and helpful and gave him a peck on his cheek.

2nd Game. I forget, so much going on. 3rd Game. Joan is trying for the glass doors, not the white ball. 4th Game. Con. has improved since the first game. Bob is bowling great. Four times I have helped the Brown players by hitting the brown to the white. Cyril did the throw of the day.

Another piece of news. Marie said to Con, “I think we need to have a little talk.” All our players are bowling very well to-day. Joan is still hoping to get a glass door. We all had so many laughs, dancing on the floor (better than on the ceiling. De Ed.) and it was great company.

To finish the day Marie and Delores sang “Tell Me a Story.” What a day for our new member Con, hope he will return next month. The final score......BROWN 9, closely followed by BLACK on 8. Cheers

Dumb Questions. On my recent travels, on the last night aboard the ship at the nightly concert, Paul, our Cruise Entertainment Director made an announcement. During the days he said he had listened to the questions passengers had asked the crew, and came up with the dumbest 10. Am disappointed not to have noted them all, but two I do remember were, (1) “has this ship ever sunk? ”from a nervous passenger, (2)” do the crew sleep aboard every night?” from a puzzled one. It takes all sorts doesn’t it?

    Works & Grounds

Not a great day for boating but a good day for the bee. It would have been one of our

better attended for the year, plenty of new faces mingled with the regulars. As mentioned

previously our main project was to clear the upstairs ready for the replacement of the

asbestos roof. Thanks to the good roll up this has been achieved.

With regards to the flag pole, it has now been fitted with safety brasses so that there will

not be a repeat of the unfortunate accident that occurred earlier this year.

Also a new life ring holder has been fitted at the jetty near the pens, it is now situated

behind a pylon. I feel that I have had enough practice now in manufacturing these items

    to consider this the best place for it. Pity about the person who keeps wrecking it;

obviously needs more tuition on boat handling.

Well folks the year is fast coming to a close, we have only one more Busy Bee to go. We

usually have two in November, the second one to prepare for the Kids Christmas Tree,

but owing to the renovations this and most other functions have been put on hold.

Well that’s about it for now hope to see you all in November.

    W.H Davey

While Bill will still be helping to organise the busy bees and giving us the benefit

of his extensive knowledge and skill, he is handing over the writing of the report

to our new Works and Grounds Committee Person, Luke Sanders who has taken

over this position from Colin McKinley.

Luke’s report for the day below.

Next Busy Bee 8.30 am Saturday

    10th November 2012

    All Members Welcome

The busy bee was held on Saturday the 13th of October. We had a good turn-out of

approximately 20 people. The main aim of the morning was to clear the club rooms

and radio tower in readiness of the work to be done on the roof.

The flag pole also had some brackets put on it to strengthen the base after an incident

that happened in winter where it fell down.

The western most life ring holder had been damaged by a boat, so that was repaired

    and put back in place.

Thanks to all the people who came down to the boat club on the Saturday morning for

their time and effort, as well as thanks to the lovely ladies’ for the wonderful

    morning tea.

    Thanks Luke
