where diseases such as West syndrome, Lennox syndrome and severe myoclonic epilepsies of infancy, none of which show myoclonic seizures as the main symptom, are in- cluded in this category. Aicardi has helpfully arranged these diseases, assigning Lennox syndrome and myoclonic epilepsies to the two extremes of a series of epileptic syn- dromes, placing the various intermediate types between these two extremes. But there are cases showing fluctua- tion among the extreme and intermediate types even in the same patient, because of changes due to the therapeu- tic or temporal course, age-related changes, etc. How to classify such cases, however, is not referred to in this book. In the third part, the author interprets neonatal sei- zures, epilepsies in infants, febrile convulsions, status epilepticus and reflex epilepsy as specific syndromes in terms of age " cause, and duration and precipitation of seizures. Differential diagnosis and treatment are de- scribed in the Final section. This is an important work and has been compiled through great efforts.
