The New England Aquarium in Boston opened in and became a precedent-setting prototype for many future aquariums. It is a phenomenal tourist draw in its urban waterfront setting; an educational resource serving its community and region; and an early example of Cambridge Seven's ability to offer both entertainment and education through experiential design, integrating exhibits and architecture. This unique institution is credited with a major role in the redevelopment of Boston's waterfront. Cambridge Seven Associates provided site planning, architecture, exhibit design, and all interior design for the original New England Aquarium building as well as for several expansion project.

Cambridge Seven provided planning, architecture, and exhibit design for Osaka, Japan's new Ring of and The aquarium presents the Pacific Ocean using the organizing metaphor of the Ring of Fire. a zone of volcanic and tectonic activity outlining the Pacific Basin. The biogeographical plan of the building, with the Aleutians to the north, Antarctica to the south, and so on, allows the building to be clearly understood by its visitors. Blue exterior walls and red glass roof forms, crowned by glass skylights, further express the Ring of Fire. Cambridge Seven's design for the aquarium was developed in collaboration with Environmental Development and Research.source
