Peters Pond, Mashpee General Information Peters Pond is 136 acre great pond with a maximum depth of 53 feet and an average depth of 25 feet. Transparency is generally excellent, extending to 22 feet. The pond stratifies during the summer months and trout water is present from 28 to 35 feet in depth (2017 data). The 2.9 miles of shoreline are developed with residential homes, DunRoamin’ Cottages and Trailer Park, The Peters Pond RV Resort and a P. A. Landers gravel pit. The bottom is primarily sand and aquatic vegetation is scarce. Recreational Access Access is provided by a MassWildlife paved ramp suitable for all moderate draft boats off of John Ewer Road on the southeastern arm of the pond (70°27'49.34"W 41°39'25.71"N). Parking is provided for approximately 15 vehicles. The town of Sandwich owns Oakcrest Cove (the former Hewlett Packard property) on the North end of the pond which includes a boat ramp. Please contact town of Sandwich Recreation Department for additional information, and/or restrictions pertaining to public access. Large sections of the shoreline are accessible to wading anglers. Fish Populations The following fish species were found during MassWildlife surveys: Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Golden Shiner, Pumpkinseed, Yellow Perch, Brown Bullhead, White Sucker, White Perch and American Eel. Peters Pond is heavily stocked in the spring and fall with Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout (and Tiger Trout when available). Fishing The pond’s excellent coldwater habitat regularly produces some nice holdover trout. The best trout fishing is during the spring and fall. During the summer months, the pond is very heavily used by boaters and other recreational users, but this is a good time to target the healthy Smallmouth Bass population. Large trout have been reported feeding on abundant young- of-year bass during the winter months. Peters Pond has produced Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, Tiger Trout, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch and Sunfish that meet minimum sizes for recognition by the Freshwater Sportfishing Awards Program. Other nearby ponds to fish are Pimlico Pond, Snake Pond, Spectacle Pond and Mashpee-Wakeby Ponds.
