Establishing, Improving and Preserving the Relationships
Between Seniors and Their Pets

Year End 2015 Mews-Letter
Well, here we are on the eve of our “Fourth Year,” with so much good news to
share. In keeping with our mission, we continue to pair seniors with appropriate
companions, foster companion pets during medical crisis’ and rehome dogs and cats
who could no longer be cared for by their owners.
Pet medical emergencies and chronic health conditions are stressful for any
pet owner. The limited or fixed incomes of our clients often puts treatments out of
reach. This quarter we helped pay for the removal of an injured eye, several tumor
removals, blood tests for Valley Fever, and several medical workups for senior pets
that were long overdue for general health exams. Relief on owners faces and their
appreciation for our contribution reinforces our motivation for this very important
mission. In addition to those emergencies, every animal we take into our organization
gets a full exam, vaccinations and spay or neutering if needed.
We could not have accomplished all that we did during this year without the
huge number of people supporting our cause. Planning and at-
tending our events, donating silent auction and raffle items,
buying our cookbooks and calendars and word of mouth, has
made Petey’s the huge success that it is!
Thank You for being there for Petey’s Playground,

If you will open your home to a long term foster, we can help more senior animals.

“Please Take Us Home and Love Us”
My name is Bogie, a 10 year old Bischon. Though I have cataracts and limited vision, I do just fine. I get along with other dogs, cats & kids and have transitioned into three different homes with no prob-lem. I’m your Teddy Bear!
Howdy! I’m Shaggy, a 10 year old-Newfoundland-Border Collie mix. I walk on a leash, very sociable and get along with other dogs, I’m just a sweet and mellow fellow. If you are looking for a great companion,
I’m your guy! Let’s talk.
Bitsy Blackie
We had a home with three other Chihuahuas until our owner died suddenly. A family member took us in but she has three of her own and needs to reduce the number of dogs in her home. We are very nice and can be adopted
together or separately. Take two we’re small!
Pink & Willy
John and Daisy have been through so much together. They evacuated to Prescott during the Yarnell Fire and stayed at the shelter on the Yavapai College Campus. John spent most of the day-time hours in a folding chair by her kennel at the animal shelter next door. Daisy got sick recently and needed to be hospitalized. We were happy to be of help to them. She got better, and here they are being united after just one night apart.
Things That
Make Us Happy!
These are the kinds of things that make me hopeful for the future. Adaya had a birthday while visiting with her Grand-parents in Wickenburg. She got presents but also asked that people bring donations for Petey’s Playground. Dog food, cat food, toys and treats and over $100 were donated. Thank you Adaya and Brittlyn for your kind thoughtfulness!

“Establishing, Improving and Preserving the Relationship Between Seniors

of Recipes.”of Recipes.”of Recipes.”of Recipes.” It was first issued in 2002 with
combined efforts of Sabrina Huffman,
Louann Dykhouser and Jane Meyers, AKA,
the Peeples Valley Cookbook Committee.
Sabrina undertook the wording and graphics
layout, Lu Anne typed the nearly 950 recipes
and Jane took care of bookkeeping and sales
records. Local artists Lu Anne and Joe
Waddell created the beautiful cover and the
index cartoons. This project took nearly a
year to complete.
The cookbook has two indexes, one with
the contributors names and the other, the
recipe names. Many contributors have since
passed, so this book is a memorial to those
wonderful folks. One that comes to mind is
Ruth Carter of the 130 year old Carter Ranch
in Walnut Grove, with three generations of
recipes.

The road to Maggie’s perfect home was a long and winding one, but she hit the jackpot. We know that THIS family is committed. Maggie, in the background, is with her new friends, (not pictured is her friend the chicken.) We can’t thank the Tupper family enough for finally giving her a loving home.

Unable to get over a cold at the shelter, Petey’s was called to see if Portia could be placed where she could regain her health. A local foster had room for her, now there are no more sniffles for Portia! She came to the shelter as a stray so her mixed breed is unknown. Estimated to be 5 years old, she has been spayed, vaccinated and is available for adoption. A sweet girl, she is great with other dogs, loves people and is learning appropriate behavior with cats. Portia will make a wonderful companion!
