…to integrate fibre optical sensors into textile structures
Combination of reinforcement and monitoring
To achieve:
• Optimized connection of the sensor and the structure
• Simple application process of the sensors
• The whole textile structure is becoming a sensor
• Three-dimensional sensor
• Protection of the sensors against overload
Motivation…

MotivationDuring lifetime buildings lose their initial stability either because of aging or overload. Reliable systems for reconstruction of buildings are needed to ensure safety.
ObjectiveDevelopment of textile structure for application on construction site. The tasks of the textiles are to reinforce and monitor structures at risk.
ApplicationFor reconstruction to reinforce and monitor the structural health of buildings.

Application in structural engineering
2BFUNTEX Final Conference – Fiera Milano Rho (IT) – 14 November 2015
• The textile is fixed by epoxy resin onto the beam or onto the wall
• Preparation vertically or overhead
• Permanent connection between the pad and the components
Example of textile integrated monitoring systems in construction
2BFUNTEX Final Conference – Fiera Milano Rho (IT) – 14 November 2015
• Large scale tests in terms of accuracy, zero-point stability, resolution
• Appliied on steel beams, pre-stressed concrete components, concrete beams
• Strain measurement in tensile zone using different comparison methods
• Simulated values displayed very well correlations with the values measured
