Buyer-seller meet @ Petrotech-2012

Buyer-seller meet an essential & important part of Petrotech since its inception was formally inaugurated by Mr. Sudheer Bhargawa, joint secretary, ministry of Oil & Natural Gas, today evening. The event was kicked off in traditional manner by lightening the lamp by Mr. Bhargawa, B. Prasad Rao (Chairman & MD -BHEL), Mr. Butola (chairman, IOCL), Mr. V S Okhde (Director, Pipelines-IOCL).

Mr. Maine in his welcome note mentioned that global oil industry is at the crossroad. And in such a scenario, the role of such events becomes even more critical in terms of their responsibility to come up with new innovative ideas, the innovations. It seeks various players from different fields to come together for the same.

Addressing the gathering of buyers and sellers Mr. Butola said that as the concept of Petrotech goes in my mind- is that, it is an event which provides a platform to exchange the ideas, dialogues, share innovation, views etc. and that is done wonderfully well by bringing the buyer and seller together which get to exchange their

ideas, views, and share their needs and expectations. This buying and selling can be in various forms, not necessarily in the form of a product but also in the form of innovative ideas, services etc. and it all should be done through a cooperative dialogue. He also, in details, illustrated on the concept of resourcenalization. He also focuses on the issue of the oil nationalization which hampers the latest technolog ica l innovat ion f rom b ig ges t manufacturers of oil & Gas. This will also hamper the efficient use of available resources.

In the later part of the event, Mr. B. Prasad Rao, established a correlation between energy and GDP, he said that as much we grow in terms of GDP correlatively we will also consume the energy. So, he focuses on the effective use of available recourses because India imports 75-80% of oil consumed. Even in vision 2020 it has been forecasted that we will have to import 45-50% of the consumption. He further added that we (BHEL) are here both as buyer as well as sellers. He further emphasizes on

the joint ventures, adding that we are also working on a JV with IOCL along with IIT-Rajsthan.

In his inaugural address mr. Sudheer Bhargawa said that we in india, need to agrresively promote the exploration as well as the exploitation of Oil & Gas. But meanwhile we also need to focus on the reliability, low cost of maintainace cost effectiveness. In this oil & Gas industry quick industry response is very critical. We need to promote both downstream as well as downstream products.

Vote of thanks was extended by V. S. Okhde.

Quiz programs are also being organized by different companies and they are giving away different prizes too. Various cultural events are also organized throughout the day for the entertainment of the visitors and delegates.

Corrigendum

Vide our showdaily issue 2, released on 16th October, it is to inform that by mistake Mr. Butola was being printed as Ms. Butola, Mr Okhde was being printed as Mr. Dhogade for which we duly seek the apology.

Ank Seals - The red ball forceIn our pursuit to interact with emerging global and Indian oil-sector companies, we reached on the stall of Minar-Hydro and Hi-Force. Minar Hydro is a Canadian firm, which is marketed in India by Ank Seals Pvt. Ltd. , whereas Hi-Force is a UK based firm. Ank Seals is showcasing its ambitious red ball (which the company also terms as smart-ball) which ensures leakage-free flow of oil.

Speaking to us, one of the company's representatives informed us that Red-ball is only of its kind which excels in the accuracy. It flows along with the products and in the course, it records the sounds as well. When the flow of the oil is leakage free the ball records normal sound but in any case of even pin-hole leakage, due to pressure difference, it tends to record different sounds. The smart ball also records the distance covered along with the frequency.

The company officials also told that the other products available in the market, to diagnose the leakage, are capable of only doing conditioned monitoring whereas Red-ball is based on the concept of innovative pin-hole technology. It also tracks the illegal taping, which is one of the concurrent problems in Indian situations.

Hi-force is a UK based brand with global presence, which produces High Pressure Hydraulic tools. The products, the officials claim, are far superior to the other available products in the market, as they are solely produced in UK and high in their quality. Hi-Force provides on-spot services as well as sells the products to its customers.

Training in Real‐time Technologies for On‐time Drilling Operations Real-time data has been the very foundation of distributed decision-making through the decades. Because drilling a well involves multi-disciplinary teams, the timely flow of information to various experts is an absolute prerequisite for an efficient operation. There was a time not so long ago when phone and fax were the only way to keep everybody on the same page, operationally. Today we work with fewer people, dealing with ever more complex drilling environments, relying on easy access to real time data as the primary source of well information. While real-time data enables us to take real-time decisions; careful planning of people and processes involved is needed for effective decision-making.

Advanced automation and data processing are well established in some areas of oil and gas but the Digital Oilfield is about integrating this technology to maximise business value. It is a major enabler for delivering efficiency, improved safety, remote operations and business value.

Digital Oilfield Training Services (DOTS) is a training partnership between Geologix and Digital Oilfield Solutions, delivering training in data standards and the wider application of Digital Oilfield technology. DOTS combines the experience of a product company, offering innovative geological applications, and a highly respected consultancy company with senior oil and gas industry professionals. Both companies are members of Energistics, the leading oil and gas data standards organisation, and have contributed significantly to the development and deployment of the standards globally. The Courses are delivered by Samit Sengupta, Managing Director of Geologix, who has over 30 years' experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, and Dr Julian Pickering of Digital Oilfield Services, who previously headed up BP's Field of the Future programme.

The combination of experienced development and operational knowledge has created a unique training opportunity. DOTS understands how to maximise business value from the Digital Oilfield and how to use data standards to deliver operational efficiency. The courses can be run anywhere in the world, and can be tailored to individual or group requirements, and will give delegates a fundamental understanding of Digital Oilfield technology and how to use it effectively.

The course is designed for geologists, geoscientists and engineers as well as IS/IT specialists involved with drilling operations. It is designed to demystify Information Technology jargons and scope out the best practices involved with leveraging such technology in drilling operations.

Subjects covered by the courses include:-

Optimised for SIL applications:R. STAHL introduces new generation of fast transmitter supply units

Waldenburg – Transmitter supply units type 9160 from R. STAHL's ISpac product line are now available as completely revised versions. Featuring many new and optimised functions, the units are now suitable for an extended application range. In addition to a new model with an intrinsically safe interface for standard voltage signals, a SIL 3 version for functional safety applications according to IEC EN 61508 has been added. Users can design the sensor part of a safety function as a single-channel version according to SIL 3, or, in two-channel set-ups, extend the required test cycles. On top of that, a range of features has been optimised in all units from the 9160 and 9163 series. These include reduced power consumption, reduced attenuation during transmission of HART signals, consistently improved results for SIL applications allowing for more flexible planning, and a reduced signal delay, i.e. a faster reaction of the output signal to changes at the input. Transmitter supply units type 9160 are available as one and two-channel versions, enabling space-saving installation in the cabinet. In addition to the connection of two-wire transmitters, the units also allow for the operation of three-wire-versions and the transmission of signals from four-wire-transmitters. HART signals are transmitted bidirectionally.

Like all Ex i isolators from the ISpac product range, the units can be easily installed both on DIN rails and via the pac-Bus system. By means of the pac-Bus system, which can be installed without any tools, all units are immediately supplied with power, and the line fault message is read out as a common error message. Moreover, the new transmitter supply units can also be installed in a pac carrier, a backplane solution that considerably facilitates the connection to DCS systems. Both functionally and concerning safety data, the new generation units are fully compatible with the versions available up to now, allowing for smooth changeovers and requiring no changes to circuit diagrams or intrinsic safety certificates.
