The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all

All and also with you

Thanksgiving

God our Creator, we thank you for the wonder of new life

and for the mystery of human love. We give thanks for all whose support and skill

surround and sustain the beginning of life. As Jesus knew love and discipline within a human family,

may Declan grow in strength and wisdom. As Mary knew the joys and pains of motherhood,

give Jess and Loz your sustaining grace and love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

Prayer of Preparation

Sit or kneel

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Penitence

Jesus said to his apostles, ‘You are my friends if you obey my commands.’

Let us now confess our disobedience to him.

All Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you

and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed,

through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault.

We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us,

forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life

to the glory of your name. Amen.

The president declares God’s forgiveness.

Almighty God,

who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you,

pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,

Introduction

Our Lord Jesus Christ has told us that to enter the kingdom of heaven

we must be born again of water and the Spirit, and has given us baptism as the sign and seal of this new birth.

Here we are washed by the Holy Spirit and made clean. Here we are clothed with Christ, dying to sin that we may live his risen life.

As children of God, we have a new dignity and God calls us to fullness of life.

Presentation of the Candidate

The candidates is presented to the congregation.

The president addresses the whole congregation

Faith is the gift of God to his people.

In baptism the Lord is adding to our number those whom he is calling. People of God, will you welcome Declan

and uphold him in his new life in Christ? All With the help of God,we will.

The president then says to the parents and godparents

Parents and godparents, the Church receives Declan with joy.

Today we are trusting God for his growth in faith. Will you pray for him,

draw him by your example into the community of faith and walk with him in the way of Christ?

With the help of God,we will.

In baptism Declan begins his journey in faith. You speak for him today.

Will you care for him, and help him to take their place

within the life and worship of Christ’s Church? With the help of God, we will.

Gloria in Excelsis

Glory to God, we give you thanks and praise, of heavenly joy and earthly peace we sing.

We worship you, to you our hearts we raise, Lord God Almighty, Father, heavenly King.

Lord Jesus Christ, the Father’s only Son, you bore for us the load of this world’s sin. O Lamb of God, your glorious victory won,

receive our prayer, grant us your peace within.

First Reading – Zechariah 4.1-6a,10b-14

The angel who talked with me came again, and wakened me, as one is wakened

from sleep. He said to me, ‘What do you see?’ And I said, ‘I see a lampstand all of gold, with a bowl on the top of it; there are seven lamps on it, with seven lips on

each of the lamps that are on the top of it. And by it there are two olive trees, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.’ I said to the angel who

talked with me, ‘What are these, my lord?’ Then the angel who talked with me answered me, ‘Do you not know what these are?’ I said, ‘No, my lord.’ He said to me, ‘These seven are the eyes of the LORD, which range through the whole

earth.’ Then I said to him, ‘What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?’ And a second time I said to him, ‘What are these two

branches of the olive trees, which pour out the oil through the two golden pipes?’ He said to me, ‘Do you not know what these are?’ I said, ‘No, my lord.’ Then he

said, ‘These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.’

Second Reading – Acts 12.1-11

King Herod laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the church. He had James, the brother of John, killed with the sword. After he saw that it pleased

the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. (This was during the festival of Unleavened Bread.) When he had seized him, he put him in prison and handed

him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. While Peter was kept in prison, the church

prayed fervently to God for him. The very night before Herod was going to bring him out, Peter, bound with two chains, was sleeping between two soldiers,

while guards in front of the door were keeping watch over the prison. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on

the side and woke him, saying, ‘Get up quickly.’And the chains fell off his wrists. The angel said to him, ‘Fasten your belt and put on your sandals.’He did so.

Then he said to him, ‘Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.’ Peter went out and followed him; he did not realize that what was happening with the angel’s help was real; he thought he was seeing a vision. After they had passed

the first and the second guard, they came before the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them of its own accord, and they went outside and walked

along a lane, when suddenly the angel left him. Then Peter came to himself and said, ‘Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the

hands of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.’

At the end of the reading This is the word of the Lord.

Gradual Hymn

1. We have a gospel to proclaim,

good news for all throughout the earth; the gospel of a Saviour’s name:

we sing his glory, tell his worth.

2. Tell of his birth at Bethlehem,

not in a royal house or hall but in a stable dark and dim,

hated by those he came to save, in lonely suffering on the cross;

Gospel Reading – Matthew 16.13-19

When the Gospel is announced the reader says

When Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say John the

Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are

you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build

my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound

in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’

¶ The Liturgy of Baptism

The Decision

The president addresses Declan through his parents and godparents

In baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his marvellous light. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising to new life with him.

Therefore I ask:

Do you turn to Christ? I turn to Christ.

Do you repent of your sins? I repent of my sins.

Do you renounce evil?

I renounce evil.

Signing with the Cross

The president makes the sign of the cross on Declan’s forehead, saying

Christ claims you for his own. Receive the sign of his cross.

Do not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified.

All Fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ against sin, the world and the devil,

and remain faithful to Christ to the end of your life.

May almighty God deliver you from the powers of darkness, restore in you the image of his glory,

and lead you in the light and obedience of Christ. All Amen.

Prayer over the Water

Praise God who made heaven and earth, All who keeps his promise for ever.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All It is right to give thanks and praise.

Lord of the heavens,

we bless your name for all your servants who have been a sign of your grace through the ages. Hope of the saints,

All make known your glory.

You delivered Noah from the waters of destruction;

you divided the waters of the sea, and by the hand of Moses you led your people from slavery

into the Promised Land. Hope of the saints,


You made a new covenant in the blood of your Son,

that all who confess his name may, by the Holy Spirit, enter the covenant of grace,

Profession of Faith

The president addresses the congregation

Do you believe and trust in God the Father? All I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ?

All I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit? All I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Baptism The president pours water on Declan, saying

Declan, I baptize you

in the name of the Father, and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit. All Amen.

The president says

May God, who has received you by baptism into his Church, pour upon you the riches of his grace, that within the company of Christ’s pilgrim people

you may daily be renewed by his anointing Spirit, and come to the inheritance of the saints in glory.

There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism: Declan, by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body.

All We welcome you into the fellowship of faith; we are children of the same heavenly Father;

we welcome you.

The congregation may greet the newly baptized.

We are fellow-citizens with the saints and of the household of God,

through Christ our Lord, who came and preached peace to those who were far off and those who were near.

The Eucharistic Prayer

Stand

The Lord be with you. All and also with you.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Lord’s Prayer

Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us:

Prayer after Communion

Lord God, the source of truth and love, keep us faithful to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, united in prayer and the breaking of bread,

and one in joy and simplicity of heart, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.

The session will be interactive, covering all aspects of writing and delivering good intercessions. It will be a very helpful introduction for those new to intercessions or

wishing to begin leading as well as useful refreshment and food for thought for those who have been leading intercessions for many years.

All who are currently on an intercessions rota are warmly encouraged to attend, no sign up necessary.

Scout Group needs

volunteers

Scouting offers fun, challenge and

everyday adventure to 400,000 girls and boys across the UK. Offering over 200 different activities from abseiling and

archery to drama, street sports and water zorbing, Scouting helps 6-25 year

olds grow in confidence, achieve their full potential and become active

members of their communities. This is only possible through the efforts

and Saint George!” The English take the town of Harfleur. Henry moves on

towards Calais. The two armies prepare for battle near Agincourt. The night

before the battle Henry visits his troops in disguise. The French numbers are far superior. Henry inspires his troops with

a rousing speech. LET THE BATTLE BEGIN. What a wonderful place to see

the troops coming through the trees and see a Shakespeare play. Do come

and join us. Limited tickets. 2015 is the 600th anniversary of the Battle of

Agincourt.

Vista Charity Shop

Vista is a local charity which provides services to children and adults with sight

loss throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, providing support to all

those who are registered with a sight loss in our parishes, and has also this

week launched a mobile support service

in Rutland, providing information on preventing avoidable sight loss to people

throughout the county. Vista has also just opened (last

Wednesday) its first charity shop, in Oakham, and urgently needs more

volunteers to join their team. They are looking for people who can give a few hours a week to help sort stock, manage

the shop floor and serve customers. If you are interested please email

Station Road Closure

National Grid will be upgrading the gas

mains supply in Station Road, Oakham, starting on 6 July, and taking about 6

weeks. For the first 1-2 weeks (approx) there will two-way traffic

lights from Kilburn Road to Church Street. For the remainder of the time (from about 20 July to 14 August)

there will be one-way traffic only from Church Street to Burley Road, and

parking will be suspended along that stretch. If you have any queries, please

call National Grid on 0800 096 5678. Signposted diversions will be in place

on Burley Road southbound via Burley Road, High Street and Church Street,

and northbound via Burley Road onto the Bypass, and back into Oakham via

Barleythorpe and the Level Crossing.

Prayer Chain

People should know that a Prayer

Chain has recently been set up. Mary Willows (01572 756264) will receive

prayer requests for friends or relatives and pass them along the

chain, where they will be prayed for, in strict confidence.

Fairtrade

The figure for May amounted to an amazing £313 30 – this includes an

excellent £61.20 from the Team Service at Langham on 31 May. Many, many

thanks to all who supported that and continue to regularly purchase both food

items and gifts. The stall is here after the 10:30 service at Oakham today. Denise

Flower Guild Quiz

All Saints Oakham Flower Guild are raising funds for their flowers to decorate the
