    The University o Bradords reputation or international qualityresearch has been urther enhanced by a strong perormancein the 2008 national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).

    The RAE is a key measure o a universitys research strengthsand quality. Almost two thirds o our academic sta wereentered in the RAE and, on average, 80% o our return wasrecognised as research o international and world leadingquality.     Understanding Mobility and Internationalisation in the

    Discipline o Law in the UK This pilot project looks at theextent to which the Bologna Process and developments inEU policy are impacting on legal education in the UK and

    what the drivers o and barriers to mobility are in academiclaw rom undergraduate level upwards

    Pilot study into the operation of the national protocol

    or the exchange o inormation in the investigation andprosecution o child abuse cases This pilot studyexamines the approach o police orces, NHS trusts andlocal authority social services departments in England andWales towards the operational exchange o condentialinormation in child abuse cases. In particular, the study willexamine operation o the existing national protocol, whichgoverns inormation sharing in such cases. The outcomeswill be accurate data as to the scale o non-implementation

    nationally, together with some key indicators as to theprincipal areas o contention or individual agencies

    OPERATIONS ANDINFORMATION MANAGEMENTThe work o this group builds on the cross-ertilisationo operations management and inormation systems,examining their theory and practice in various organisationalcontexts. Among the most ruitul o these research topicsis the adoption, use and management o e-technologies,particularly in business-to-business settings.

    The group has a strong ocus on meeting the needs obusiness and a large amount o industry-based unding hasbeen obtained through Knowledge Transer Partnerships anddirect sponsorship rom organisations such as the NHS, the

    European Commission, Yorkshire Forward, Pilkington plc andKitagawa (Europe) Ltd.

    The group Research Unit is the Centre or Entrepreneurshipand Innovation (CEIM), a leading entrepreneurship andinnovation management-ocused centre, which has an activenetwork o academics, entrepreneurs and practitioners whoare inorming by research, inspiring through teaching andengaging with enterprises.

    Key achievements:

    Professor Taylor has advised the Industrial Development

    Board or Northern Ireland and the Ministerial Advisory

    Board o the Roads Service Agency or Northern Ireland Professor Taylor and Dr Margaret Taylor edit the International

    You will need to discuss your proposed eld o research insome detail with the School.     Part-time and distance learning study

    Academic Year Dates and Enrolment

    All ull-time Masters and research programmes involve studyover 12 calendar months.

    I you are a home or EU student, enrolment and inductionwill probably be rom Tuesday, 20 September 2011. Forinternational students enrolment and induction will be rom14 September 2011 (a ew courses have dierent startingdates, but you will be told about this in good time).

    It is best i new research students can also enrol at thebeginning o the academic year in September, though thereis more fexibility here. I you wish to start your researchprogramme at any other time (such as the beginning oJanuary), then you will need to make arrangements withthe School.

    You are encouraged to attend the special Welcome Weekorganised by the Students Union which takes placeduring the week o enrolment. This will introduce you tothe University in particular, and lie in the City o Bradord

    in general. I you are coming rom overseas you shouldalso certainly aim to attend the special programme oorientation events or International Students, which will beheld throughout International Student Enrolment andWelcome Week commencing 14 September 2011.

    Taught courses cover a broad spectrum o specialist topics,leading to a variety o qualications up to Masters degree.Typically, a taught Masters course o ull-time study lasts12 months. Two semesters o instruction are ollowed by adissertation written over the summer. However, many coursesmay be studied part-time (one or two days per week) over twoor more years which makes it easier or students in ull-timework to make day-release arrangements. The taught element o

    part-time courses generally last two years instead o one, with aurther year allowed or the completion o the dissertation.

    Taught Course Structure

    All courses have two stages: the taught course stage(which takes up most o the rst two semesters) and theproject/dissertation stage.

    For ull-time courses with a September start date, the taughtcourse stage runs rom late September to late January, andlate January to May. Some o the modules in the secondsemester will be direct preparation or the research projectyou will undertake over the summer, and which will orm the

    basis o your Masters dissertation.Courses are organised on a modular basis. Teaching is usuallyconcentrated on two or three days in the week during normalterm times. Modules are usually examined or assessed at theend o the semester in which they are taught.

    To complete the Masters course, you spend the summerwriting a dissertation (sometimes described as a projectreport, a management project or a long essay), usuallybetween 10,000 and 15,000 words. The dissertationis written on an agreed topic and is usually submitted bymid-September, a year ater starting the course.

    I you do not proceed to the dissertation you will be awarded

    the Postgraduate Diploma on the basis o your perormancein the module assessments and examinations.

    The Bradord MBA is an integrative programme designed or

    those seeking high-level careers in management. It providesknowledge and skills in a wide range o business disciplines, andaims to ensure that graduates can make a signicant contributionto management through career-long sel-development.

    There are our pathways to the MBA programme, enablingmanagers to organise their studies and pace their learningaccording to their circumstances.

    The Accelerated MBA: An innovative 10-month MBAprogramme, designed or experienced managers with thedrive, energy and commitment to take on the challenge o ourprestigious MBA in a shorter time rame. Commencingin January, this intensive programme oers the same learningoutcomes as our one-year programme.

    The Full-Time MBA: The ull time pathway is designed ormanagers who wish to take a year out o their career to ollow anintensive course o study. This pathway runs or a ull 12-monthperiod, starting in mid-September.

    The Executive Part-Time MBA: The Executive part-time pathwaystarts in September and January each year. It can be completedin two years or taken over a longer period, up to a maximum osix years. Most participants complete the programme in threeyears. Students currently attend one to two evenings per week andoccasional Saturday mornings and then typically take a urthersix months to a year to complete a management project (duringwhich class attendance is not required).

    The Distance Learning MBA: Oered nationally and internationally.The distance learning MBA enables participants to organise theirstudy time according to their circumstances. It involves usingdistance learning teaching materials with remote supervision romthe course tutor, principally by email, and or which the attendancerequirement is limited to examinations either at the end o themodule or at the end o the academic year. However, contactwith other managers and sta is an important part o the learningprocess and this is done throughout the programme via email andthe Virtual Learning Environment.

    The distance-learning MBA can be completed in two years, or takenover a longer period, up to a maximum o six years. I taken over twoyears, approximately 14-16 hours o weekly study is required.
