    is a leading management education center in India.Institute of Public Enterprise (lPE),located in Hyderabadhas many distinct advantages in offering the manage-ment education. During the last four and half decades ofits working, IPE has distinguished itself as a center forlearning. Besides its accessto policy making institutions,it networks with enterprises in the public and privatesectors, NGOs and global institutions. A strong team of55 faculty members and over 100 visiting professorssupport its intellectual base.The Institute has widenedits intellectual base by drawing faculty from top busi-nessschools in the world, industry and civil services. Theacademic activities of the Institute operate through thevarious schools and the area coordinators. Specializedcenters of studies have been set up to enhance learning.The instructions are supported by research, training,consultancy, industry and publication experience of thefaculty. The Institute iswell-linked to the industry which is actively involved inthe design and implementation of its various long termcourses and also in its placement programme. Theplacement cell has devised a special programme tocater to the needs of placements of the participants of

    the various long term management educationprogrammes. The course contents are frequentlyrevised to bring them in line with the requirements ofthe recruiting organizations. The Institute has identifiedsoft skills as an important component of managementeducation. Many databases on economy and industryhave been acquired to help the participants in complet-ing their short term and long term projects. Enoughroom is provided for personality development andlearning through interaction in seminars, conferences,conclaves and sports. A wide variety of teachingmethods is used including case studies, role plays, fieldvisits, management games, computer aided exercises,group discussions and syndicates. A system of evalua-tion of the performance of the participants is in place. Aspecial cell has been established to train the partici-pants in acquiring the requisite skills to complete theprojects. An Entrepreneurship Development Cellfunctions to train the participants in the preparation ofthe business plan and its implementation. TheInstitute's state-of-art infrastructure includes ERP,digital library, Wi-Fi campus; Computer Labs withServers and latest multi media computers and peripher-als,4 MBPSInternet, air conditioned classrooms with thelatest audio-visual equipments.IPE library isworld-classin terms of collection of management books, reportsand journals.     March Towards Excellence.:. Over four and half decades, the Institute has diversi-

    fied its scope of activities from Researchand Consul-tancy to Training and to Management Education.Starting with research, the Institute soon found itselfhaving to undertake consultancy and responding to

    the training needs of Government, Public Enterprises(Centraland State)and Corporate sector.

    .:. With the emergence of computer technology in India,the Institute became a pioneer in the field of comput-erization, assisting the State Government in formula-tion of a computerization policy, developing softwarefor Government, PEs and public systems, advisingthem on hardware choices and on the useof comput-ers as a decision support system, running trainingprogrammes for personnel of PEsand public systems,both general aswell astailor-made. In every trainingprogramme, there is a component of training ininformation technology.

    .:. The Institute has endeavored to maintain a balancebetween research, consultancy and training, withoutallowing either training or consultancy to detract itfrom the original goal of research which remainscentral to itswork programme.

    .:. In the matter of training, realizing the need forreaching out to the environment of PEs,the Instituteaccepted the offer of the Government of India to takeup training ofthe officers ofthe Indian AdministrativeServices (lAS)in four week courses for those of 10-16and 17-22 years' seniority, and one week refreshercourses,with "vertical integration"where officers of 6-32years' seniority arebrought together.

    .:. In response to the requests of Public Enterpriseexecutives, a full-fledged post-experience three-yearpart-time MBA (PE) programme for in-serviceexecutives of Government, Public Enterprises (Centraland State)and Corporate sector was launched in theyear,1981.
