CANTEEN NEWS As we are nearing the end of the term some
canteen items may start to become unavailable.
A suitable replacement for these items will be made.
Thank you for your understanding.
As we wrap up Term 2, we would like to provide you with a little glimpse of how our term was! This term we learnt how plants grow, and got the chance to plant some herbs and watch them grow ! (come and check them out !) We did some nature walks around the school and collected lots of leaves, bark and twigs and made a fantastic Welcome Banner! We also wrote our names with leaves and did some leaf portraits! We learnt to look after the environment, because if we don’t, who will?? The Lorax, once said, unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not. We did Uno Championships and soon we will announce the winner!! At the moment Alan Manoj and Lochlan Clark are at the top!! Lastly, we did a lot of experiments with magnets and iron shavings that all children enjoyed! Those were the highlights of our term! Please remember that Friday is the last day of school and OSHC will be operating from 12.30. To ensure your child’s safety please book your child in as soon as possible. Thank you, The OSHC Team

Our Learning Journey of Reggio Emilia St Patrick’s School is increasingly being influenced by
the Principles of Reggio Emilia. Through this approach we are making
learning and thinking more visible to one another.
The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy focused on
preschool and primary education started by Loris Malaguzzi
in Italy after world war II.
Please see further information in the enclosed leaflet.
From our Principal………... Dear Parents and Community Members,
As we reach the end of yet another term we have
much to thank for in this school community. We are
blessed to have such wonderful students who are
growing in a loving community surrounded by staff
and parents who love them, care for them and look
out for them. We all strive for our children to grow
happy and healthy and as a small Catholic School we
work hard at providing this nurturing environment.
Last Friday’s School Disco was a great example of
developing children’s well-being and sense of fun.
Children love to see their school as a place of
connecting with others, place of belonging and a place
of enjoyment. So I thank with all my heart our
wonderful Parents and Friends, led by Nicole Davis,
who coordinated a successful and fun-filled evening
for our children. Close to 170 children out of a total of
223, bought tickets and were mesmerized by the fluro
theme, the lights and balloons. Many parents spent
hours Friday during the day to set up to make the
event that extra special. The money raised from this
disco will go directly to buy reading books for classes,
providing greater variety of books to read.
Thank you to the 13 volunteers who recently were
able to attend a face-to-face Volunteer Induction
Session. These sessions will be repeated in Term 3 for
those volunteers who could not join us this term.
Protecting our children is of paramount importance
and the many eyes on the children help to make our
school a safe and secure place to be. The contribution
of our volunteers adds to the sense of feeling safe, a
sense of belonging, break down social isolation and
support the school financially. For this reason, we are
asking all parents who are not yet registered become
registered volunteers to undergo a police check which
is free for you to do so you can be ready at any time to
help whenever you can. Volunteers can also be occa-
sional volunteers and can help up to 7 times without a
police check for public school events like Sports Day
or Mid-Autumn Festival but you must be registered
with the school.
The recent Archbishop Visit together with the
Archdiocese leadership team was also a wonderful
opportunity for our parish in this community.
St Patrick’s School, as one of the Croydon Park Parish
School, has always been a school that has supported
the settlement of many families of migrant and
refugee background and for the last 26 years to
families with children with special needs. It was a
honour to have our school and our parish featured so
highly in this month’s Catholic Newspaper the
Southern Cross.
Staff News
As we end this term, we farewell Ms Teresa Colella
who has been a student-teacher, relief teacher and
NO PARKING
on Haddington Crescent long driveway
I urge all families to ensure that you do not park on
the long driveway in front of the big bin enclosure.
It is not only a ‘No Parking’ area but it is posing a
risk as children walk behind the parked car and
cars may reverse into a child.
Reception teacher this term. Ms Colella’s connection
to our school has been an extended one and we
thank her for sharing her gifts of kindness and
teaching skills with our school community. Ms Colella
will be teaching full-time at St Thomas More, Elizabeth
Park over the next 2 terms and we wish her well as
she continues her career in Catholic Schools.
It is also an opportunity to thank Ms Amy Raymond for
her leadership and the support she has provided St
Patrick’s School during this term. With Ms Anne-Marie
Platten returning to our school after taking Long
Service Leave, Ms Raymond’s will be returning to
full-time teaching in the Reception class. Ms
Raymond’s experience, leadership and faith has
meant that we have benefited a lot by having her with
us this year so far and her support this term in
particular has been pivotal to another successful
term. During the holidays, Ms Abbie Davison is due to
have her baby and we wish her and her husband Joel
well. We are looking forward to the news as she
begins her family. Ms Davison thanks the staff and
parents for the connection she has made over the last
2 and half year and misses the children a lot.
July Holidays
As staff, students and their families take a break from
the routine of school, I take the opportunity to thank
you for making our school a special place to be. I
hope you can have a more relaxed pace in the
morning and keep warm. If you require Vacation Care
please refer to YMCA at Whitefriars, Our Lady of
Mount Carmel OSHC or Our Lady Queen of Peace
OSHC.
God Bless, Frank Congedi
DATES TO REMEMBER Sacraments students Confirmation

From our APRIM……... Sincere Thank You – Visitation by the
Archbishop
Thank you to all
parishioners who were
involved in the Pastoral
visitation to the Parish
by Archbishop Wilson
and his Team. Our
visitors covered many
aspects of our parish life
– the three schools,
including the Special
Learning Unit at St
Patrick’s and the
Pre-School at St Margaret Mary’s, the Bene
Nursing Home, some aged in their homes,
meeting with the Parish Pastoral Council, the
Religious Sisters, the Special Ministers of Holy
Communion to the sick and frail aged, St
Vincent de Paul and Mercy Care
representatives. 80 parishioners came to the
Wednesday evening parish meeting, and 5
parishioners spoke of their experience of the
parish and their questions/anxieties for the
future. 35 youth and young adults met with
the Archbishop on Sunday afternoon and 5
presentations were made.
The Archbishop celebrated our 10.30am Mass
as well as the Vietnamese Sunday night Mass.
Refreshments followed that Mass and the
Archbishop was the last to leave! He also
enjoyed the sausage sizzle with the youth. We
thank all who prepared food for the various
gatherings.
Before the Visitation a comprehensive report
on the parish was prepared, which included
input from the Parish Pastoral Council, schools
staff and other parishioners.
All of this happened while the parish office
staff were battling with the flu at various
stages of infection. My sincere thanks to Fr
Long Hai, Paula Noujaim and Helen McPhee
for battling on so valiantly.
Chancellor Mrs Heather Carey in an email on
Wednesday said, “ the diversity of people and
groups and the active involvement and joy of
commitment were just wonderful to
experience.”

Our Catholic Identity…… Our Reception children have been learning about God’s creations. We were Made In the Image of God and created by God therefore, we are connected to all of God’s creations. They read a beautiful story called “You are Star Dust” by Elin Kelsey. The magical words, "You are stardust" begin this book designed for children four years old and up. The author continues: "Every tiny atom in your body came from a star that exploded long before you were born." Elin challenges the readers to ponder that the water they drink today once filled "the puddles where dinosaurs drank." Then there are our ties with flowers ("Each time you blow a kiss to the world, you spread pollen that might grow to be a new plant.") and to trees (just as they lose their leaves, we shed the most hair in autumn), and other animals who deserve our respect and understanding. The book delivers an important spiritual message that all children need to hear: "We are all connected. We are all nature. We are all stardust." Everything in the universe is our neighbor in the community of life. The children then wrote and illustrated ways in which they are connected to God’s creations. Dear God, thank you for making me and for making butterflies, we are connected because we are special. Precious
Dear God, thank you for making me and for making cats, we are connected because we are cute. Rodela
Dear God, thank you for making me and for making flowers, we are connected because we are beautiful. Jessica
Dear God, thank you for making me and for making gardens, we are connected because we are beautiful. Vamika
Dear God, thank you for making me and for making gardens, we are connected because we are pretty. Angel
