A course for undergraduate physics majors, physics graduate students, and interested graduate students from aligned disciplines.

In this course we study the properties of solids from first principles. The spatial distribution, momentum distribution and energy distribution of electrons governs the electrical and optical behavior of materials. Examples will include traditional materials such as silicon, and novel materials such as graphene and thin-film semiconductors for photovoltaics.
