Pharmacy Technician As important members of a health care team, Pharmacy Technicians assist licensed pharmacists to provide medication and oth-er health care products to patients. This comprehensive, 93 hour course will pre-pare students for an entry level position in a community pharmacy, hospital or long term care setting. Course topics include learning medical ter-minology specific to pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, defining drugs by generic and brand names, calculating dos-ages and I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, converting dosages, dispensing of prescrip-tions, controlling inventory, and billing and reimbursing insurance.

NVCC Certification and Optional PTCB Exam

Upon successful completion of this course you will earn a certificate of completion from NVCC and be eligible for employment in Connecticut. This course will also prepare you to take the optional Pharmacy Techni-cian Certification Exam offered by the Phar-macy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) . This certification is respected by employers but is not mandatory for em-ployment.

Pharmacy Technician Clinical Explore the workings of a Pharmacy Tech-nician in a workplace environment. En-hance your knowledge, gain experience and improve employment opportunities by seeing the real world functions of being a Pharmacy Technician. Students will receive 120 hours clinical training. Limited seating is available.

Clinical Prerequisites: Successful comple-tion of NVCC’s Pharmacy Technician Pro-gram, drug screening, and background check.
