GX gallery are delighted to announce an exhibition of photographs by Philip Rhys Matthews. This work blurs the boarders between fashion photography and fine art by exploring critical issues and questioning the world in which we live through clothing and costume.
Phillip came to the attention of GX when his work was selected by GX Founder Da-vide Mengoli as part of FloatArt London 2013. Works are in the gallery and avail-

Philip is a graduate from the MA Fashion Photography Course at London College of Fashion. Coming from a fine art painting and illustration background, photography seemed like a natural progression and offered the chance to work collaboratively. His work blurs the boarders between fash-ion photography and fine art by exploring critical issues and questioning the world in which we live through clothing and costume. The meticulous attention to detail in his projects, from set building, prop making and creating the garments, all undertaken by himself, ensure every element is a considered compositional and conceptual feature.
The artist has always been interested in how our world works and in a lot of cases, how it doesn’t. Most of his projects are largely informed by current events, scientific breakthroughs, global concepts, or anything that shapes our world and de-serves examination. Philip believes that if he can take that information and present it in an interesting way then hope-fully he has created something meaningful and engaging.
