ALL TIMES EASTERN STANDARD TIME CLICK BROWSER BACK ARROW WHEN FINISHED Philosophy & Ethics Semester 1: Introduction to Philosophy To understand our culture today, students need to know the ideas espoused by ancient thinkers like Plato and Aristotle, Christian philosophers like Augustine and Aquinas, and molders of modern thought such as Kant and Nietzsche. This course will reveal the influence their ideas have had on world events, theology, and our everyday lives. NOTE: Although junior high students can take this course, it is better suited for students from 9th grade through adult. Semester 2: Christian Ethics Students will examine different ethical systems, as they develop a solid foundation for ethical reasoning based on the Christian worldview as described in God's Word. We will examine what the Bible teaches about specific ethical questions, abortion, same-sex marriage, cloning, etc., and refute the most prominent arguments of those who oppose Christian ethical positions. Suggested for 9th grade through adults. Prerequisite: none Required Resources: Sproul, R. C. The Consequences of Ideas: Understanding the Concepts that Shaped Our World. Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 2009. Brian has taught Apologetics and Worldview at Arborbrook Christian Academy, various courses at The Art Institute of Charlotte, and currently teaches as Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Theology at SES. He served as the Director of Undergraduate Program at SES for 2 years and is now the Director of SES’s Ph.D. program.
