The Natlonalfrust made an $85,-000 challenge loanto FHLF on terms thet the local or'ganlzrtion raise $6 for each gl of thcloan to undergird its varlous pro-grams. The loan ls four times aslarge as any the National Trust everhas made, obviously a lemar|<able voteof confidence in the work being doneby PHIiF - such as its preservationof the OId Post Office on the North-side and its community restoration lnthe Mexican fuar Streets area, North-ride, and the 10üh to 29th Streets dis-trlct, Southside.

So PHLF he¡ embarked on a $600,-000 fund-raising drive to meet theterms of the challenge loan:

We support the eurrent drlve for areason well stated by Leopold ,AdlelII, a trustee of the National Trust:"Pittsburgh without a doubt ls con-ducting the most significant' programln the natlon today in historic preser-vation because it seeks {o utilize therestoration of historiC buildings and, neighborhoods as a means.to renew-iirg civlc pride.
