PHOENIX PUBLIC LIBRARY’S SOLUTION

• Custom development in-house

• Cool stuff: Integrated customer experience, Custom developed features not offered by ILS vendors, Java/JSP database driven site, content managed by non-technical staff, Oracle Endeca Search API, ILS vendors developed APIs in partnership with PPL, load balanced WFEs, Index Servers, Clustered Database

• The drawbacks: No framework, non-standard database, resource intensive, Over a dozen web applications supported, sustainability, ILS vendors caught up

WHAT’S OLD IS NEW AGAIN

• Back to the solution of a separate content and search sites

• SharePoint for Content Management System (CMS), Polaris ILS PAC

• Content provider comfort and training

• Ability to provide new content features quickly

• Ability to leverage ILS vendor’s features for search, account features and regular upgrades

• Ability to easily find resources to manage technology and to build on the platform

• Project completed, launch delayed to accommodate other departmental priorities
