NEWSLETTER NO 28 2018 6 SEPTEMBER 2018 PRAYER FOR CONFIRMATION Almighty God, We pray for those students being Confirmed this weekend. May your high expectations, Lord be matched by their faithfulness. On this special occasion, when their Baptism is transformed into Confirmation by Your Grace and their free will. NEWSLETTER NO 28 2018 6 SEPTEMBER 2018

PRAYER FOR CONFIRMATION

Almighty God, We pray for those students being Confirmed this weekend.

May your high expectations, Lord be matched by their faithfulness. On this special occasion, when their Baptism is transformed into Confirmation

by Your Grace and their free will. Let the Church rejoice and their schools applaud.

May the Sacraments deepen their spiritual experience of You and encourage them in the exploration of their faith.

Let us pledge ourselves in doing all that we can to support them in their commitment. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen. Dear Parents Please keep in your prayers the children in Year 6 who will be confirmed this weekend. They have spent a significant amount of time in class, at meetings and retreats understanding what it means to be Confirmed in the Catholic Church.

Creator Spirit, Strengthen this child with your gifts of grace,

to love and serve as a disciple of Christ. Grant that they may grow into the fullness of the stature of Christ.

Fill them with the joy of your presence. Increase in them the fruit of your Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the spirit of love, patience and gentleness, the spirit of wonder and true holiness.

Amen

Today the children who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend participated in a retreat. The retreat was held in the school hall and all the children were involved with different presenters during the day who treated the children to varied and interesting activities. Thank you to all involved.

I hope that all Father’s and Grandfather’s had a wonderful Father’s Day last Sunday. We celebrated Father’s Day at school last Friday with our usual excellent breakfast. This function was very well attended and showed the spirit of our school. The breakfast was followed by the PPW Assembly. Thank you to the P&F who organized a raffle of quality prizes and congratulations to all the winners. Finally, a huge thank you to all the staff who arrived well before 6:00am to prepare the food and set up. It is times like these that remind you of what a kind and dedicated staff we have here at St Andrew’s. I personally thank them for their dedication and giving spirit. Well done to all involved. Please find attached Archbishop Costelloe’s pastoral letter for the Catholic Community of the Archdiocese of Perth, including Catholic schools. Athletics forms a very important part of the Physical Education Program at St Andrew’s culminating in the School carnival. The faction carnivals will be held next Thursday and Friday. Congratulations to the children who have been so eager in participating at Little Athletics and other training programs. May all your hard work and training pay off. I wish all competitors the very best of luck and hope that you all achieve your own personal best! This week is ‘National Child Protection Week’. On Monday the 3rd of September, we were invited to represent St Andrew’s, by attending and speaking at the ‘Child Safe Framework’ launch at Aranmore Catholic Primary School. Mr Fontaine, Mr Smith, Mrs Campbell and Mrs Dennis all came along to support us. This was an amazing opportunity and learning experience, and we were able to share with everyone our ‘Ministry Program’ and how this program allows us to express our ‘Student Voice’ within our school. We met Dr Debra Sayce who is the Acting Executive Director of CEWA, Mr Tim Wong who is a Senior Consultant of the ‘Keeping Safe Framework’, as well as other important leaders from the field of Education. What a great time we had and to top it off, the food afterwards was amazing!

LOCAL PAPER BOOK WEEK ARTICLE The following link will take you to the article that was published in the Community Newspaper about our school’s book week parade. It was very enjoyable to read! https://www.communitynews.com.au/north-coast-times/news/clarkson-characters-galore-at-st-andrews-catholic-primary-school-book-week-parade IN SCHOOL / IN TERM SWIMMING 2019 Both Mr Waddell and I have been involved in negotiations with regards to in term swimming in 2019. Initially we were offered TERM 3 for our lessons, which we were opposed to. The only option that has been left to us was to try and secure the services from a private swimming lessons provider. Keeping in mind the following;

• expense to parents.

• similarly, to what was paid this year.

• time of the year that lessons are to be conducted.

Mr Waddell and I have secured the following result. We will be using the services of the Swim School Beaumaris of which;

• the lesson price will remain very similar to this year. (The biggest expense is always the bus transport to and from the pool).

• lessons will be conducted in Term 1, 2019.

I wish to sincerely thank Mr Waddell for his hard work (and skills in securing such a positive outcome for the families at our school). Well done Zac! God Bless, Mr. Sam Fontaine Principal

VISION STATEMENT St Andrew’s CPS offers an education that acknowledges, respects

and nurtures the uniqueness of each person. Within a framework of Catholic values and teamwork,

the students will be challenged and supported to recognise their gifts and develop their potential as they learn and contribute to their community

SUBJECT:

MOST REVEREND TIMOTHY COSTELLOE - PASTORAL LETTER

DATE:

3 September 2018

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and Catholic Religious Australia’s Response to

the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse was released on

Friday 31 August 2018. This formal response was addressed to those who have suffered from child sexual abuse and those who have suffered with them, to the Catholic community in Australia, to the Australian Government and to the Australian people. The response was released together with the final report of the Truth Justice and Healing Council (TJHC). I encourage you to read the res ponse and reflect on how as an organisation and wider Catholic community we can now move forward with clarity, commitment and purpose. https://www.catholic.org.au/acbc-media/media-centre/media-releases-new/2139-acbc-and- cra-response-to-the-royal-commission/file Please find attached Archbishop Costelloe’s pastoral letter for the Catholic Community of the Archdiocese of Perth, including Catholic schools. In it he states: “The Royal Commission itself, over long years of intensive investigation culminating in its final report and extensive recommendations, has been and will continue to be an invaluable tool in assisting us to grapple with the causes of this terrible tragedy. We must never allow ourselves

to become complacent and think of this only as a dark past which, with the conclusion of the Royal Commission, is now behind us: it is also our present and an urgent demand on our

future. Many survivors of sexual abuse, and their families, continue to suffer the consequences of the

crimes that were committed against them. We must as a Church, as a community of disciples of Jesus Christ, do everything we possibly can to help people move into a better future. That we failed to do this in the past only makes it more urgent that we do so now and in the years

ahead. At the same time, we must continue to explore every possibility open to us to ensure that our

Catholic communities, be they parishes, schools, hospitals, social welfare agencies or

anything else, are places of absolute safety for our children, our young people, and indeed for everyone who comes in contact with the Church in any way.” I encourage you to read this letter and to circulate it amongst your school’s parent and carer

community, as well as with your staff. As Catholic educators and leaders, our highest priority is to ensure our Catholic schools are

safe places where all students can flourish in their learning and experience the Gospel.
