Project: Maestro Magazine

Project Description:

First ever issue of my Free Songwriter/Indie magazine, competing with NME’s new style free Magazine. To compete with NME’s new free magazine it is important that I distribute my magazine for free, whether this be digitally or physically and I issue it weekly preferably every Friday. Furthermore, to compete with NME’s new magazine if I was to create a full magazine I would need to produce a minimum of 46 pages in total including advertising. However, I am only going to be producing the Front Cover, The Contents page and the DPS for my magazine.

Photographer:

I will be the photographer for the magazine Technical Codes – Medium close up, low angles Lighting – Low key (Dim) Post Production – I would consider applying a black and white filter to the

background and all colours visible on main star. This is so all the attention is brought to the part of the front cover in colour: the artist and the masthead.

Maestro Magazine“a distinguished conductor or performer of classical music.”The verbal code ‘Maestro’ may connote professionalism in the music industry as a “Music Maestro,” is a very successful composer. This may reflect how I endeavor to become a very successful magazine franchise in the songwriter/indie genre and how I have “composed” the magazine myself. This supports the ideology suggested in the tagline “Master of Music”- the idea that we are the best in the business.

Reference images and ideas:

I chose these pictures because I like the idea of having a black and white picture with maybe a streak of colour. The picture of Passenger sitting down could connote how he started from the bottom; busking but now he is a superstar but he is still respective of

his roots. The other picture has a professional feel about it and looks quite artistic.

Casting:

I’m probably going to use myself as a model as I know exactly what sort of pose I want to go for and I more or less can create the hairstyle I want for the magazine cover. I will also be available whenever it is necessary t take the photos.

They should be around 6 foot and look very laid back as they are more focused on the music than what anyone else thinks of their appearance. The model must be available whenever pictures are being taken for the magazine. The model should have long thick hair and pale skin to fulfill the singer/songwriter stereotype.

Wardrobe and Look:

I want to go for something quite basic, so the attention is drawn to the star and not the clothes they are wearing. The star will just wear a white t-shirt with a messy hairstyle and jeans.

I like this idea as if I can use black text on the t-shirt

I want to go for quite a messy look with the hair to give quite a laid back appearance. I will use V05’s rework TEXTURE putty to give a more natural look. Fro this to work the model must have medium length thick hair.

Where:

The photo shoot will take place in my house in Epsom and I will most likely mask the model from the image and put him in a very basic setting such as a white or gradient background.
