UNIT 23 PHOTOGRAPHY

Task 1

MELINDA GIBSON

Born in 1985, Gibson is interested in the changing

perspectives of the photographic medium, it's

positioning within contemporary art and the help

and hindrances brought about through the

technological advances in photography.

Page 3: Photography Unit 23 AO1

As you can see, this photographic artist uses none of the original image, except for the outline. This is used to differentiate between the two images.

JOHN STEZAKER

Stezaker was born in 1949. He uses existing images

and combines them together to create themes which

represent something when in their appropriate

collection.

Page 7: Photography Unit 23 AO1

Here two different photographs have been

diagonally aligned to create one joiners

photograph. The photographs are a

different colour style. One is a faded sepia and the other is fully

greyscale. This creates an interesting and

confusing effect.

ERIN CASE

Case was born in 1982. She is an award winning

visual artist based in Midland, Michigan, with a

focus in collage. She also sometimes uses surreal

landscapes in her photo montages.

Here you can see another photograph by Erin Smith. As you can see it follows the style of his other photographs (viewable on upcoming slides). Here you can see he has combined photographs of a portrait of a woman and a landscape photograph.

Page 11: Photography Unit 23 AO1

This is a photo collage. Here

you can see through the use of outlining, two

completely different images

are combined together.The two different

photographs are completely

different. There are no

similarities between the

two. They are juxta-posed.

This artist uses different methods of photo collage. She uses analog and digital methods, which tend to match across the collection that they are in.

The photographs are usually in portrait, because they mostly combine portrait photographs with other images.

This is a montage photo. As you can see, the artist has combined two different photographs/graphic to produce this interesting image. One of the images is completely desaturated, whereas the other is not. This creates an interesting composition, because the lack of colour in one photo in comparison to the other makes it stand out when compared to other images.
