Photojournalism Major Project Assignments – MP#4 Daily Effort = 40 pts – attendance, productive use of class time, prepared, on time Quizzes = 10 pts- Exam review sheets= p. 1-2 (DUE 4/25) + p. 3-4 (DUE 4/26) + p. 5-7 (DUE 4/27) Major Projects = Pick 5 projects to total 50 points (see below) – all due by the end of the marking period (June 10th) unless otherwise stated. FINAL EXAM = 20% of FINAL grade – based on quizzes taken in class (Thursday, April 28 th ) Extra credit = 5% - for going above and beyond on photo shoots, editing, teamwork, etc. Art Show Preparation –REQUIRED- DUE May 17 4 pts. Delete unused files from your past folders. Keep only best images 4 pts. 4+ best images in PRINT folder. Mount with labels neatly. Hang for art show – May 17 th . 2 pts. Artist Statement to go with art display. Photoshoot – Spring Event 6 pts. Pick an event, such as a sport, assembly, prom, or other activity for Yearbook 2017. Take 200 or more photos at the event(s) as needed; Use advanced camera skills; Be sure to get a variety of people and activities of the event. 4 pts. Edit at least 20 photos (cropping, color correction, contrast, clarity, etc.) Rename and save into correct yearbook drive folder. Try at least one frame effect with your favorite. Please DO NOT just re-purpose clip art- only original designs. Think logo, readability, and maybe develop a class mascot… The winning design will be made into a silkscreen for our class for those who would like a shirt. 5 pts. Photojournalism Major Project Assignments – MP#4

Daily Effort = 40 pts – attendance, productive use of class time, prepared, on time

Quizzes = 10 pts- Exam review sheets= p. 1-2 (DUE 4/25) + p. 3-4 (DUE 4/26) + p. 5-7 (DUE 4/27)

Major Projects = Pick 5 projects to total 50 points (see below) – all due by the end of the

marking period (June 10th) unless otherwise stated.

T-Shirt Design for Photojournalism class (or self)- DUE May 6/ Shirts by May 16

5 pts. Create a photojournalism-related shirt design (can draw it by hand, use Adobe Photoshop

Scrapbook/ Collage/ Journal/ “Quilt”

sure that you are taking a minimum of 20 of the photos yourself, even if it is for the

5 pts. Arrange 20 or more of the best images into a single or a series composition. Include any

other information in this collage that will help tell the story/ narrative for your event. Can

be completed using Adobe InDesign page layout, or Adobe Photoshop collage. Use a

variety of textures and colors as background(s.)

Landscape Unit

5 pts. Take pictures of the same landscape for 10 days trying to get different light, weather and

other elements of nature in your pictures, or shoot a series of photos of the same

landscape at 10 different times of the day. Take a minimum of 20 shots during each

time/day x 10= 200 shots. Experiment with composition and advanced camera

techniques. Try: panorama, vertorama, panoramic planet, HDR, etc.

5 pts. 10 edits, one from each day or time period, arranged into a single composition (in

Photoshop or InDesign.)

Animals/Pet portraiture or action

5 pts. Take at least 200 photos of an animal or pet. Try to get all of the following: a cropped

image, a close up, a posed portrait, an action shot, an interaction with someone (person/

animal), an interaction with a toy, photos of the animal in its natural environment. Try a

variety of angles and compositional techniques.

5 pts. 10 edits arranged into a composition.

Long shutter speed tricks- Light Photography/ Painting with light

5 pts Take at least 200 using long shutter speed. Try to get a variety of techniques, including

light painting, light drawing, star trails, water blur, traffic blur, orbs, etc. Don’t just do 200

photos of one technique.

5 pts 10 edits

Underwater photography

5 pts Take at least 200 using underwater cameras (we have a few varieties…do NOT try to take

the Canon SLRs underwater.) Try to get a variety of subject matter, compositions, and

water sources. Don’t just do 200 photos of one thing.

5 pts 10 edits

3D printing- Sketchup

5 pts Learn a free 3D Design software, such as Sketchup (on our desktop), Autodesk 123D,

Meshmixer 3.0, 3D Crafter, Tinkercad, or Sculptris. There are many online videos to help you

learn your software of choice.

5 pts Create your own sculpture in 3D. Do not just use the sample sculptures. Be sure to save

your creation as a .stl file if you would like to have it printed.

Senior Video – Edit Component- DUE June 2

5 pts Create a 5 minute segment for the senior video. This might include childhood, formals,

sports, teacher messages, video messages from senior class members, etc. (check with

McKenzie and Alicia for needed “jobs.”)

5 pts You will use Adobe Premiere to seamlessly edit your segment. Successful editing involves

only including the best material. More is not always better. Add credits for any music you

borrow (artist, title, copyright year, record label.)
