Phunware created HomeAway’s popular Android application using our brandME ™ mobile experience

framework.  brandME™  is our approach to creating award-winning mobile solutions for the world’s

biggest brands.  We provide in-house Creative, Engineering, Quality Assurance (QA), Program

Management and a proprietary design methodology to develop mobile applications that are consistently

ranked #1 globally.  In this case study, we will focus on three primary feature sets that answered the core

needs of HomeAway and their customers.  At the end of the case study, you will find a detailed breakdown

of the 26 custom features that power the HomeAway mobile experience.

Property SearchEnabling a functional and elegant search experience within the application was a primary goal for

HomeAway.  Phunware designed and engineered a search feature that includes vibrant, full-screen property

photos (versus thumbnails) and the ability to share or inquire directly on every search result.  Incorporating

reviews, similar properties, rates and an availability calendar on one screen requires a user experience (UX)

that allows customers to drill down into whatever level of detail they need without overwhelming the visual

product.

Communication between PartiesHomeAway’s services are built on a social contract between owners and travellers.  The ability to interact in

a simple and secure way is critical to driving reservations as well as ensuring that both owners and travellers

get all of their questions answered beforehand. Creating this communication portal within the application

(versus triggering an email program to open) allows the user to make and track multiple inquiries easily

while staying engaged with the brand.

Owner ManagementFrom an owner’s perspective, managing quotes and sending payment requests to guests is an important

part of HomeAway’s mobile experience. Phunware architected a solution that enabled this functionality as

well as the ability for owners to send cancellation policies and rental agreements within the application.
