The principle states that :
“ The buoyant force acting
on an object completely
submerged in water
equals the weight of the
displaced water “
WHAT IS BUOYANCY
OR UPTHRUST ?
BOUYANCY
The property of the fluids to apply
buoyant force
UPTHRUST OR BOUYANCY
FORCE
the force acting upward to
reduce the actual weight of
the objectwhen it is under
water
TWO FACTORS OF BUOYANT FORCE
The volume of the
body immersed i.e.
volume of the fluid
displaced ,or
density of the fluid
MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR VERIFYING ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE ARE :
EUREKA CAN
STONE
SPRING BALANCE
BEAKER
DENSITY AND BUOYANCY FROM ARCHIMEDES’S
PRINCIPLE
Buoyant Force = Weight of fluid
displaced = mg = ρVg (note : F = ma)(note : ρ = m∕V )
Thus FB= ρ V gWhere ……FB= Buoyant Force or Upthrustρ = Density of fluidV = Volume of fluid displaced or
the volume of the object that immersed in the fluid.
BUOYANT FORCE AND FLOATATION
Buoyant force = weight ⇒ the object floats and stationary
Buoyant force > weight ⇒ the object moves up
Buoyant force < weight ⇒ the object moves down
THE LAW OF FLOATATION
A floating object
displaces its own
weight of fluid
which it floats.
APPLICATIONS
HOT AIR BALLOON
SUBMARINE
SHIPSFISHES
