June, July and August in Virginia are the warmest months of the year. With the addition of high humidity, a great deal of stress is put on our bentgrass greens. BentgrasS is a cool season plant. The optimum growing conditions for cool season grass is between 60 to 80 degrees. We spend a lot of time maintaining the healthy balance of water dispersal. Overwatering can be just as deadly as under watering. The morning dew pattern is a great indicator of moisture in the soil. Where dew it is lighter on the grass is where wilt is going to form sometime during the day. This is why we hand water. We also do a lot of needle-tining (small holes) to the greens. This helps get oxygen to the roots and also opens up the soil profile allowing the water to get to the roots. In return, we get less wilt. I would like to thank the golf course maintenance staff for their hard work and keeping things looking so good. KERRY ALLEN PRGC JUNE EVENT SCHEDULE: MEMBER-GUEST WEEKEND SET FOR JUNE 10TH-12TH
