s your 65th National President, with joy and jubilation, I welcome all officers and members of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) aswell as our distinguished guests and stakeholders to our 73rd Annual National Convention at SMC Bacolod City on November 22 to 24, 2018. This most awaitedyearly event is an avenue for sharing of knowledge, skills and best practices, showcasing of talents, conferring of awards to outstanding chapters and individualsand networking among accountants.

Focusing on our theme “Promoting Integrity. Advancing Excellence.” In a digital environment, this year’s ANC promises to provide abundance of knowledge in theareas of Digitization of the Accountancy Profession, Cyber Security, Cryptology and Block Chain Theory, Teaching Technical IT Courses in the Classrooms,Integrating Reporting, among others.

The future is bright for the accountancy profession with the Board of Accountancy (BOA) and PICPA together with the Association of CPAs in Public Practice(ACPAPP), Government Association of CPAs (GACPA), Association of CPAs in Commerce and Industry (ACPACI) and the National Association of CPAs in Education(nACPAE) working hand in hand to address the concerns of accountants. This year’s ANC exhibits the harmonious relationship among the aforementioned majorplayers in our profession. Certainly, this development assures us of the sustainability of the progress of accountancy in the Philippines and our compliance withthe Statements of Membership Obligations as mandated by the International Federation of Accountants.

These are happy and fruitful days of the Accountancy Profession. As I always say:During these happy moments, let us praise Him;When there are difficult moments, let us seek Him;But in every moment let us thank Him.

To God be the glory!

reetings!

The annual National Convention (ANC) is an event that CPAs from all sectors are always looking forward to. It is an event where CPAs renew acquaintancesand forge new ones. It is also a venue of strengthening networks while getting involved in learning and appreciating developments in the Accountancyprofession.

This year’s theme of “Promoting Integrity, Advancing Excellence” speaks of a lot of things. For one, realizing the theme is what is needed by the professiontoday. To me it means incorruptibility is an essential virtue while we cruise through our individual journeys in pursuit of excellence. This year’s ANC promisesto be a vehicle of laying down a strong foundation in the development of a morally upright professional. It is my fervent hope that each and every delegatecan well appreciate the objectives of the convention.

Your participation to conventions like this is vital to the development of the accountancy profession. I highly encourage everyone to be involved in theactivities of PICPA as these are intended to harness your professional skills and make you better professionals. Learning is a never ending process and weshould take advantage of learning opportunities that come our way.

Our profession is faced with lots of challenges brought about by changes in the business landscape. The options that we can choose are being proactive, thatis getting ready before they come, or being reactive, thus facing them as they happen. I am certain that being proactive is the better option.

Congratulations to the organizers of this convention. Your dedication and hard work in pursuit of attaining the goals of PICPA is truly commendable.

Christmas Messages

My Christmas message is for each and everyone of us to have that HOPE, PEACE, LOVE & JOY of our Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ who is the very reason for the season . Amidst the parties and preparations of the busy season, let us always remember the kind generosity of our Almighty Father in giving to us the personal presence of His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord.

We likewise follow His example of giving our personal time this season to our families, to our loved ones, and to our beloved Profession and fellowship time with our colleagues.

On behalf of the MMR GAO Council, I would like to express our sincerest and deepest gratitude for your utmost support and cooperation in the accomplishment of all our programs, projects and activities.

The Christmas season is always a cause of celebration for all of us in PICPA , a joyous time to bring everyone together after accomplishing the major activities and programs for the year. Nakatapos na po at kalahating taon na lang, we are almost done with our terms and joyfully looking forward to its completion.

We also take this occasion to remember those who have gone ahead of us and pray that they are now in eternal peace and repose with our Father in heaven. Let us also always remember to pray for our sick beloved PICPA employees and Officers especially our Administrative Manager Ms. Fanny Madraga and our former Executive Director Divinia Jugueta.

While we are all strong and alive let us bring the spirit of hope, of peace, love and joy to all and everyone we encounter and in all that we do, to all the people around us and extend to them the love, peace and joy we experience out of the love of our Savior Jesus Christ, for the greater glory of God.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone! God bless us ALL! ❤️

Normita L. Villaruz, ChairPICPA-MMR GAO FY 2018-2019

Ma. Victoria C. Españo, ChairPICPA-MMR FY 2018-2019

Pasko na naman po! Maligayang bati po sa ating lahat!

Christmas is a strategically-timed celebration towards the end of the year, apt for a meaningful culmination of the year: rekindling ties, enjoying happy get-togethers while giving thanks to everyone who have been part of our soon-to-close year. As a Christmas carol’s lyrics say, “It is the most wonderful time of the year” and indeed it is, with all the gift giving, merrymaking and happy celebrations!

The true meaning of Christmas is beyond these merry making and celebrations, though. The nativity - the story of the birth of the Messiah – will always be a welcome story to children of all ages, and it is what proclaims the profound essence of Christmas. It is a beautiful story of hope and promise that an all-powerful God is ever faithfully seeing mankind through, and that the omnipotent deity even became one with humanity through the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christmas is a time of togetherness and oneness - in flesh, in mind and in spirit; a communion with God and humanity, and that is what we celebrate in this season of faith, hope and love.

May I thus greet each one in the PICPA community a meaningful Christmas of togetherness, unity and communion and may all our hopes and efforts for the forthcoming year be truly blessed.
