DESCRIPTION

PiemonteFacile is a web portal developed and managed by CSIPiemontethat allows Piedmont citizens and the business sector to easilyaccess public digital services. Within the portal users can approach a specialsection called “Piemonte in pillole” (where public data assets on varioustopics can be navigated through visual stories) and an AppGallery partas well. The paper provides a description of the web-site; a more specificexplanation of the MUDE, which is an on-line service useful for professionalsworking in construction; and an example of data of data-storytellingon Piedmont vineyards’ trends over the past 50 years. Lastly the paperidentifies bright perspectives on the use of visual data-storytelling in orderto improve decision making processes at the urban scale.

Modello Unico Digitale per l'Edilizia (MUDE)

MUDE: what is it?

The service stems from the desire to

facilitate

the PA, professionals and citizens

with regard to a difficult subject to interpret, very demanding in terms of information (from planning to register) and highly changing over time,

also from the point of view of the legal rules regulating it.

17/4/2012 9

MUDE: What are the benefits?

• To citizen and professional it is easier to present their

applications and to check their progress;

• the municipality will have certainty of law interpretation and

better information quality, consequently a lower preliminary

work;

• the Region administration can easily monitor the building

activities and obtain the needed data to support the territory

planning.

17/4/2012 10

MUDE: How does it work?

• Professionals can have their access

permission from the front office and then they

are able to access a personal desk,

• The Municipal official can operate through

the Back End

Visual Storytelling & Smart Cities: Perspectives

• Politecnico di Milano is experimenting on the possibilities of gathering, crossing and representing data visually in order to improve decision-making processes at urban scale

• With the development and diffusion of mobile devices, these information on urban experiences, emotions and opinions are actually geo-localized: we can now refer citizens' shared opinions directly to specific places

Is it possible to provide citizens, decision makers and urban planners with

customizable tools able to real-time inquire cites and territories they live in?

Is it possible to gain meaningful insights on how the population react to new

policies - Is the feeling toward the introduction of a new pedestrian area positive

or negative? Are people happy with the new bike lane? What people say about the

subway being open during the night? - in order to gather feedback and precious

suggestions for future projects?
