International Cooperation
Tackling together global societal challenges; access to the world's best talents, expertise and resources; enhanced supply and demand of innovative solutions
Pierrick Fillon Strenghtening international cooperation with EU
Example of cooperation – Joint funding scheme SEA-EU
• instrument for the funding of bi-regional, multi-lateral research and innovation projects
• Joint Calls for Proposals
• A typical project funded under the JFS would last for 3 years and usually costs such as personnel, (small) equipment, consumables, travel and workshops are eligible.
• Yet, this can vary from funder to funder since the national rules apply.
• The central management of the JFS is operated by the European Commission's Service Facility in Support of the Strategic Development of International Cooperation in Research and Innovation.
5TH JOINT CALL FOR PROPOSALS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (S&T) IN THE THEMATIC AREAS OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES (INCL. COVID-19) AND
NANOTECHNOLOGIES - Deadline 15.Dec. 2020.
6th JOINT CALL FOR PROPOSALS OF INNOVATION IN THE THEMATIC AREAS OF DIGITAL HEALTH (INCL. INFECTIOUS DISEASES) AND BIOECONOMY (INCL.

Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions – mobility of researchers
• Horizon 2020’s most international programme• More than half of all Third Country participations in H2020• 140 nationalities (25% of total participations)
• Bottom-up, competition-based research programme• Creating impact on researchers, institutions, structures• Simpler rules, fine-tuned definitions, harmonised conditions
• Doctoral Training Networks for PhD students • Postdoctoral Fellowships for PhDs• Staff Exchanges - any type of research staff • Synergies - co-funding training programmes• Science Festivals - public outreach events

BACKGROUND SLIDES
But where do we stand with international cooperation with the European Union
Pierrick Fillon Strenghtening international cooperation with EU
Crucial importance of brains-circulation and joint initiatives across the World, BUT where do we stand with covid? Impact on mobility, availability of funds
Scale and scope are required in the
transitions to rapid changes 1)Greendeal,
2)Digital transition 3)Health issues
How can we be concrete with key partners and at
the same time open/respecting each
other competitive advangates

Priorities for international cooperation in Security (Inclusive and Secure Societies in Horizon Europe)
• Cyber security• Tackling global and inter-sectoral security challenges (e.g. pandemics,
earthquaqes, floods etc)• Speeding-up development in past-conflict and less developed regions and
mutual trust and relations through science diplomacy• Boosting competitiveness through positive effects of research collaboration• Promoting customs control standards and requirements • Exporting and understanding of EU’s security• Exploiting potential synergies that exist in law enforcement, integrated border
management and criminal justice systems
