ARAB TIMES, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2017 25 ‘Princes and princesses’ honored with special awards PIES holds Juniors-Seniors Night with glare, glitter KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: The Philippine In- ternational English School (PIES) in Fahaheel holds One Enchanted Evening with its Junior and Senior students who came in at the Al- Baraka Grand Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Farwaniya in their exquisite suits and dazzling and shimmering gowns like princes and princesses. The Royal Court was formally opened with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Aiesha L. Ashraf Morsy Mohamed of Grade 11-Del Pilar followed by the invocation led by Ivan Angelo D. Dimaculangan of Grade 10-Aquino. In her opening remarks, Allen Joyce B. San- doval of Grade 11-Del Pilar welcomed all the princes and princesses, school officials, teach- ers, parents and guests. “This week has been filled with the success of the opportunities we all took. Whether it be the opportunities we took as a class, or as individuals, they were all courageous leaps of faith. Opportunities can be difficult to take because of our doubts and fears. So take this moment to congratu- late each other, and yourself, for overcoming your fears. We are here tonight to celebrate everyone’s success. It doesn’t matter if you are a junior or senior, what is important is that we all did a magnificent job,” she said. The inspirational message was delivered by PIES Principal Antonio Casupang. He said, “Some affairs are to be done, some are to be remembered, but there are those that are to be cherished as they are engraved in hearts forever. JS Prom is part of high school life, a part of growing up into an adult or a mature person,” he said. Reminds He reminds everyone that JS Prom entails a passing of responsibilities which the Juniors have to formally accept them from the Seniors who will soon leave the portals of their Alma Mater. He continued reminding each one to face responsibilities, no matter how hard, no matter how distant its realization might be, no matter what hardships to be faced, for after all, no quitter wins. He commended the faculty and staff for the successful holding of the event and urged them to continue giving inspiration to their students to become respon- sible citizens of the community for it is in the schools that students’ potentials are harnessed. After the traditional lighting of the candles, Juniors of Grade 9-Escoda performed the tra- ditional Cotillon d’ Honor, a type of patterned social dance that originated in France in the 18th century. It was originally made up of four couples in a square formation, the forerunner of the quadrille. After the sumptuous dinner served right after the Cotillon d’Honor, Juniors of Grade 10 – Rizal performed the traditional Rigodon de Honor gracefully and elegantly. Rigodon de Honor is an elegant dance that is brought to the Philippines by Filipinos after visiting dif- ferent countries during the time of the Spanish colonial rule. It is a square dance and is often followed by a waltz dance. Following the Rigodon de Honor were the special numbers performed gracefully and zestfully by each class. Grade 9 – Bonifacio performed the nostalgic Cha-Cha; the elegant waltz by Grade 10 – Aquino; the modern Hi-Hop dance by the Grade 11- Del Pilar and of course, a number from the Consilium Band performed by selected Grade 10 students. Elegance One of the highlights of the event hosted by Redel Lucindo and Ms Golda Myrrh Duldulao was the awarding of special awards to the princes and princesses. On the other hand, Jamreza Salvador was cho- sen as the Prom Princess while Robert Justine Veloya as Prom Prince. The Best in Gown was bagged in by Maurice Leean Encio while the Best in Suit went to Tom Maverick Ranon. The event came to an end with the closing remarks of Viriza Ann Caballo, PIES Supreme Student Government President. She thanked everyone for the successful night that was made possible through their help and support. She also thanked all the guests, teachers, and parents for gracing and supporting the event. “It was indeed a happy and memorable event for everyone to be together in one night of dance and dinner,” she said.
